The Greenbrier Historical Society is pleased to announce the WV Irish & Scots-Irish Family History Conference, May 5 & 6, 1999 in Lewisburg, WV, featuring the Ulster Historical Foundation from Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Society is pleased to sponsor this two day conference on Irish & Scots-Irish history. Dr. Brian Trainor & Shane McAteer will be presenting workshops on accessing Irish records, early Scot-Irish immigrants, and researching Irish and Scots-Irish families, as well as providing private consultations. The conference will include a special Celebration of Irish heritage the evening of May 5, with a moveable feast of delicious Irish treats that begins at North House Museum, travels to the Greenbrier County Courthouse, then on to a sumptuous dinner at Old Stone Church, followed by dessert at North House. Throughout the evening attendees will be entertained by musicians playing traditional Celtic & Appalachian music at each site. The conference will be presented Wednesday, May 5, 1999 & Thursday, May 6, 1999. Both days will take place at the Greenbrier Community College Center in Lewisburg. Conference registration fees are $60 for two days, including the dinner on May 5; $40 for one day only; and,$25 for the Celebration of Irish Heritage Only. The Ulster Historical Foundation will also have Irish & Scots-Irish publications available for sale at the seminar. Private Consultations with Dr. Trainor or Mr. McAteer will be available during the two days of the conference. These consultations are separate from the seminars and are $25 for a 20 minute consultation.Consultations can be scheduled in advance. All net proceeds from the WV Irish-Scots Irish Family History Conference are designated to be placed in the Records Restoration Fund for preservation of the original Greenbrier County records in the Greenbrier County Courthouse.
