    3. Obituary MINNIE THORNTON MADSEN, 98, of Huntington, widow of Harold J. Madsen, died Saturday March 17, 2001 in Regency Park. She was a librarian with the Huntington Public Library. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon M. Hall of Lakeside, Calif.; one son, Marcus T. Madsen of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one sister, Meda Murphy of Richwood. Funeral is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington; burial in Woodmere Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Contributions may be made to Regency Park, Huntington Hospice or First Congregational Church. Published on 03/19/01 in The Herald-Dispatch of Huntington, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Thomas William Thornton and Minnie Etta Perkins. Thomas was born 5/5/1875 and died 9/4/1917. Minnie was born 6/16/1881 and died 9/15/1957. Thomas and Minnie were married 5/15/1901 at Alderson, West Virginia. Thomas and Minnie had the following children: Margie Olive, Marvin Ezra, Marcus Emmer, Maynard Rush, Meda Ellen, Marshall William, Mina Ethel and Minnie Alice (Madsen). Thomas William was the son of Thomas Sterling Thornton and Sarah Alice Goode that had migrated after the Civil War to the Putnam/Lincoln County area of West Virginia about the year 1870. Thomas and Sarah then later moved to Greenbrier County, West Virginia(1900 Census in the Blue Sulphur District). Thomas' brother Henry Addison had deserted his family and wife Lucy Goode and settled in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Henry later married Mary Wiley and lived in the Cornstalk area. The Thornton line of Henry Addison and Thomas Sterling is: father - James Page of Franklin County, Virginia (1815-1898). father - Sterling (Starling) of Franklin, County, Virginia (1776-1849) father - William (1751-ca 1778) father - William, Jr. of Brunswick County, Virginia.(1717-1790) father - Francis (1692 - 1737) father - William, II (1649 - 1727) father - William, the Emmigrant from Gloucester County,Virginia(1620 - 1708).
