Marcus was a tailor who married Eleanor, one of four daughters of the Irishman John of Lexington. He owned the land on which Washington and Lee University now stands. Marcus also worked as a jailer for 25.00 a year. He next purchased a 2 story log building known as the Barracks and used by soldiers in 1812. This building still stands opposite the jail. In the parlor, he put up the first wallpaper ever seen in Lewisburg. He was Captain of the 2nd Batallion of the 79th VA regiment of Militia in 1823. They had eight children: 1. Yandaloo de Marguerite 2. Marshall Cicero 3. Abarella Berdeaux Bisextile 4. Marcus Dianthecal 5. Elizabeth Ann Marcus sold his property in the 1800's and moved to Missouri. If you can open word documents, I can send you copies of the pages. I am looking for my GOSHEN family and would appreciate any information and lookups that relate to this family: Marcus H.
