Here is an excerpt from the 1850 Augusta County Census: HOBBS: James, 36 yrs, m., white, merchant Elizabeth, 32 yrs James Olin, 8 yrs Ira, 4 yrs Augusta Virginia (daughter) 1 yr. John Jerome, 6 yrs. Lewis BOSWELL, 6 yrs. In the 1860 Augusta I find: John HOBBS, 15 yrs Ira T., 13 yrs Augusta, 11 yrs William B., 6 yrs Henry C., 3 yrs. All are listed as having the last name HOBBS.
