I will be doing a quick trip to some of the southern WV courthouses, probably Summers, Monroe, Greenbrier, and Raleigh Counties, the first part of this week, leaving by noon tomorrow, Sunday. Any suggestions about courthouses or other sources would be appreciated. Will be looking for the Walker family. Memucan was born in Lunenburg Co. VA. lived in SC and MD, was a Rev. War Vet. and one of the first school teachers in Greenbrier Co. The family seems to have moved around within different counties, probably some not actual moves but new counties being formed. Memucan's son Joel was a member of Lick Creek Baptist Church where he was kicked out in 1849 for "strong drink". Where in Summers County would this have been? Another son of Memucan was Hezekiah Walker. Charles Emerson Walker who was a Baptist Minister in Beckley, Raleigh Co. for about 30 years in about 1930-1950 was a grand son of Joel Walker, and son of William Washington Walker. Joel and some of his adult sons moved to the Keeners Ridge, Dille, Strange Creek area where Braxton, Clay and Nicholas join about 1871 Memucan Walker, 1764-1836 his wife Rachel Lewis Son Joel Walker, 1809 Greenbrier Co. - 1889 Braxton Co. wife Lucinda Fuel Joel's sons: William Washington Walker wife Ruhama Jane Mollohan Benjamin Walker wife Francis Matheny, her mother was a Fuel Sylvanus Walker, Baptist minister, wife was a Boggs Joel McPherson "Mack" Walker wife was also a Boggs, sister. A 3rd great grandson of Memucan Walker took part in a DNA testing project that found eight Walker branches with a common ancestor, probably going back to a William Walker who came to America about 140. There is a new website with a Family Tree Maker chart. Will add it at the bottem. Some of the material on it is not proved. Thanks for any help.
