Can anyone help me with the following...the only way I am going to get all of these HOOVERS in their perspective "baskets" is to figure out who begat who.. 1. I found the following in an extracts from "The Christian Advocate (Catlettsburg KY Methodist Episcopal, South" publication. 05-Jan-1889 edition: George A. HOOVER was born in Bath Co., VA, 18-May-1821, the son of John and Mary Jane HOOVER. He was the second of eight children, all boys except the eldest. He married Alice C. MILLER, 20-Feb-1851. {no location give for marriage} They had eleven children, five boys and six girls, all of which grew to adulthood. The moved to Lewis Co., in the 1860's, settling near Walkersville. He claimed to have seen and talked with Clay, Calhoun, Webster, Tyler and Harrison during his lifetime. He died 11-Nov-1888. {no location of death and burial but will assume KY since it appeared in a KY church publication} 2. I have a copy made from the family bible of William HOOVER and Huldah WILLIAMS, married 10-Jan-1858, Healing Springs { assume VA as LIbrary of VA referred to it as "Hoover Family Bible Record, Bath County, 1832-1971 } States that William was born 20-Sep-1835 and died 06-Jun-1913, and Huldah was born 13-Aug-1832 and died 23-Dec-1902. {no parents names given} Then lists names and birthdates of their children: Almira, Dora A., Laura L., Josiah M., Huldah L, and William T....also the marriages of them etc.....and the Temperance Pledge was signed by: M. J. Hoover, Daisy C. Hoover, Elizabeth Hoover, Nellie R. Hoover, M. J. Hoover, Jr., M. J. Hoover, III, Thomas Branch Hoover and George Jones. {Hey, every little bit of data is suppose to be noteworthy LOL } Has births, marriages and deaths up to about 1971. 3. Henry HOOVER and Barbara BOWMAN, married 05-Mar-1814, in Woodstock, VA. (Figured for sure this was my Henry and Barbara....HA HA HA.....sent for War records.....traced this man and woman all the way to Butler Co., OH...not my Henry and Barbara....So one down and several more to eliminate. Children were: John, Samuel B., and Joseph who were born in VA....Mary A., Jacob, and Elizabeth born in OH. The 1860 OH census listed another child, Joseph born in 1856. Assume him to possibly be a grandchild they "aquired". (Anyone know parents of the above?) I also have records from Butler Co, OH and Henry's Rev. War Pension records. 4. I also...incorrectly....went after Frederick and Margaret Holsapple HOOVER...Greenbrier County, VA. He was born c:1775, supposedly in Germany, migrated from York Co., PA and died c: 1837 in Greenbrier Co., VA. Have descendants and copies of wills, etc. Anyone know anything on him prior to settling in Greenbrier Co.? I "have the feeling" he and Sebastian (Pendleton County) were brothers....but no documentation. 5. In John D. Sutton's book on Braxton County he makes reference to one John HOOVER from the Valley of Virginia. Said "he was born and reared in the Shenandoah Valley, was one of a large family, said to be six brothers, that scattered and went to other states." (My question? Did he have six brothers or was he one of six sons? ) His wife's name is Esther. They had four children: John C. who married Lucinda BUTCHER; Paul who married Martha SHORT; Sally who married a McKEEVER and Eliza who married William MORRISON. 6. Cain HOOVER who married Susan KEISTER, 16-Jun-1828. This marriage was recorded in Greenbrier County, WV by a circuit minister...so cannot assume the marriage was actually performed within the county boundaries. Looking for any documentation to prove parentage. Suspect Henry HOOVER and Elizabeth (Heavener?) to be parents of Cain and George KEISTER and Susannah PECK to be the parents of Susan. I have "theories"...but nothing etched in stone or penned on paper. Have quite a bit of HOOVER data if I can help anyone. Peace, Vivian
