    3. Good Morning Folks, It has been a long time since I partisipated in the list but due to family health problems I have been sitting on the sidelines. I wanted you to all know I am still here and still looking for additional information on the above families that at one time were in Greenbrier Co. SPENCER line goes back to James Spencer , supposed son of Thomas, who married first Elizabeth Hopenstal and second in 1833 married Mary COOK. COOK is my brickwall: According to census records Mary appeared to be much younger than James at the time of their marriage. ( Does anybody have a copy of that marriage?) When they were married James was a widower with 11 children including a set of infant twins. Is it possible that Mary first came to the Spencer home as a wet nurse or nanny? My line followes that of James & Mary's son Washington Spencer born in Nicholas Co. WV . "Wash" married Maryetta Williams and had a large family. They moved to Lewis Co. Washington in 1902 however their son, John Jones Spencer stayed in WV.(my line) I can't find what happened to Mary Cook Spencer and would love to connect with somebody who may have this information. TAYLOR my gggrandmother was Catherine Taylor b. 1835, daughter of StephenTaylor & Melinda Williams ( cousin to Maryetta Williams above) Stephen was son to Eli & Margaret Woods Taylor. Eli was son to Daniel Taylor ( war of 1812 vet) Other WV surnames include BENNETT COLLINS PERRY PATTERSON SHOULDERS COTTRILL GODFREY Brenda Collins Dillon

    3. I have a conflict here. Perhaps "Chas." was misinterpreted as "Thos." or visa versa. Does anyone know? Greenbrier Co. Marriage register (LDS microfilms 595040 and 848615): Chas. Henning and Mary Smith, 2 Jan. 1839 [by?] Wm. C. Margrave. Evans, Register of Marriages, Greenbrier Co. 1781-1849 (published book): Thos. Henning and Mary Smith, 2 Jan. 1839 [by?] S. McMullen. This is among my earlier research so my notes were less than perfect and my source citations nearly non-existent (I know better now -- grin). 3. Hi Folks, I've gotten a lot of questions about the URL to this article. It is a two-line URL....you can do a Copy then Paste it into your browser's address line. Or you can visit <http://www.register-herald.com> This is the feature article today. Also, I spoke with Joyce Mott, director of the North House Museum, last week, and she told me that the GHS was notified of the documents and told they had an hour and a half before the trash truck was to pick them up!! They went "dumpster-diving" for these wonderful documents, so we owe those folks a debt of gratitude! She said that they are scanning some of these documents for the Members-Only section of the GHS website. Some of them are already on-line. 2. What wonderful news! Now, maybe I'll be able to find out what a 10-year suit and countersuit that involved on of my ancestors was all about. Thanks for sharing the newstory. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take for the Greenbrier County Historical Society volunteers to do the index? Wish I was close enough to help. Now would be a good opportunity to encourage people to join the historical society, if that's permitted on this list. If not, just ignore that last sentence (grin).

    3. Cara, Write to National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) 9700 Page Boulevard St. Louis, MO 63132 and ask for Form 180. Here's a note about these records: "Please note that a 1973 fire destroyed many Army records for the years 1912-1959, many Air Force records for the years 1947-1963, and a few Army records for personnel discharged since 1973. Records for veterans who were still living at the time of the fire were reconstructed. " Good luck! 1. [WVGREENB] Dosky/Doskie Holstein Kirk
    2. Am searching for wedding information on a "Dosky" Holstein. She is found in David Anderson Turner's annotated Census of 1900 Boone County, WV in the following household: Sherman District #214 David HOLSTEIN      55 Rebecca E.              49  wife Virginia                    27  daughter George T.                20   son Silas                       18   son Quincy A.                14   son Dosky                     1     granddaughter Dosky/Doskie Holstein was the daughter of Virginia "Jenny" Holstein. Father, at present, is unknown. Virginia "Jenny" Holstein married Linville Garrison "Tom" Stover in Boone County on 8 November 1902 in Boone County, WV. "Tom" Stover & "Jenny" Holstein had two children -- Gladys M. Stover & Sadie Alice Stover -- before "Jenny" died on 26 March 1911 in McKenfree, Fayette County, WV. According to the obit of Sadie Alice Stover Peters, who died in February of 1963, "Doskie" Kirk was a surviving sister, living at the time in Williamsburg, Greenbrier County, WV. Does anyone know which of the Kirk gentlemen that Dosky/Doskie Holstein married? Oral legend tells me that Dosky/Doskie/Dasky went by the nickname of "Dot." Thank you in advance for any information & guidance. As always, I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

    2. Lee Long
    3. I am still looking for my Long family, and recently was able to obtain some information, and I hope someone out there can help me, if only a little bit. My husbands grandfather was JOHN LETCHER LONG, born April 15, 1873 in Meadow Bluff. We were able to get some of his medical records, these show that his father was James Long and the mother of some of his children was: Malinda ADALINE Fisher. I found today that she was born in Patrick County, Virginia and lived in 1860 in Floyd County, Virginia with William and Elizabeth Fisher. This means these kids may have not had married parents. I was also finally able to get a copy of his death certificate and this shows his father was called Dock, now this could have been a nickname. Hopefully, someone can help. THANK YOU!! ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1
