    2. Mary Rodd Furbee
    3. Greetings: I thought some of you might be interested in this: Outrageous Women of Colonial America, by Mary Rodd Furbee, has been published by John Wiley & Sons. The paperback book is geared for childrenages 9-14. Shawnee Capitive: The Story of Mary Ingles, a second book by Furbee, has also been released by Morgan Reynolds Publishing of North Carolina. Outrageous Women of Colonial America features 14 women of diverse regions, races, professions and backgrounds, a majority of whome were involved in or heavily impacted by the colonial wars -- from conflicts between white settlers and Native Americans to the Revolutionary War. Some, of the featured women, for example First Lady Abigail Adams and religious dissident Anne Hutchinson, are well-known historical figures. Other women featured in the book are comparatively obsure, for example the Wampanoag chief Weetamoo of New England who led her tribe in battle against encroaching white settlers and Anne Bailey a female scout on the western Virginia frontier during the "Indian Wars." Furbee also is the author of Women of the American Revolution (Lucent Books) and the forthcoming Outrageous Women of the American Frontier (Wiley). She is also a clinical instructor and public-relations specialist at the West Virginia University School ofJournalism. The books can be purchased via wiley.com, morganreynolds.com, amazon.com or through major bookstores or wholesalers such as Baker and Taylor or Ingram. 2. I am not sure of the answer to your question; however, when researching my Deisher family I have come across some Britt burials in the old Deisher Cemetery, now referred to as Longdale Cemetery or Longdale Baptist Church Cemetery. The cemetery is located in Botetourt County, Virginia, on Craigs Creek Road. The following are buried here: Myrtle Britt Thomas, b. 1898, d. 1976 Clara Frances Britt, b. 1886, d. 1945 Sara S. Britt, b. 1864, d. 1929 Robert L. Britt, b. 1856, d. 1931 Stella Britt Thompson, b. Aug 30, 1896, d. Nov 24, 1970 If any of these are in your line, please let me know, I have photos of their tombstones if you are interested and would like them. Jennifer Stull Virginia

    3. Thanks to all who responded with ideas. Lynne -----Original Message----- a reference to my (I think) Thomas Henning in Augusta Co. records: "1798 -- insolvents and delinquents [tax] list: Thos. Henning removed to Kenowha." Would "removed to Kenowha" be a reasonable notation if he'd actually moved to Greenbrier Co.? Was Kanawha a general area or just the specific county?

    2. Cara
    3. Dick, Thanks for your response to my query. Considering that in 1741 the Carolinas and most of North America were under British rule, that was a law laid down by the British and would have affected all of the colonies. Am I on the right track? Listers please add you input! Cara Cara, "In NC (North Carolina). the marriage act of 1741 forbade "the abominable mixture" between white men and women and Indians, Negroes, Mustees and Mulattoes or any person of mixed blood." The above taken from a list by June Bork and submitted by Sara Patton to the WVGreenbr-List, Saturday March 17, 2001. Dick Martin
