Am searching for information on Charles McClung, who served in the Revolutionary War & who was a namesake of my gggg uncle Charles McClung Huffman. I first find Charles McClung listed in "Virginia's Colonial Soldiers," by Lloyd D. Bockstruck. In a chapter on bounty land warrants is the following: "Warrants for 1000, 1000 & 1000 acres issued to James McClung, heir at law of Charles McClung, a Captain in the 3rd Pennsylvania Rgmt." Next I find Charles McClung, of Greenbrier County, VA/WV, listed in "West Virginia Estate Settlements," by Ross B. Johnston, in the following manner: "MCCLUNG, CHAS, set 1805." I would appreciate any information pertaining to Charles McClung. Thank you in advance for any information. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
Would any one happen to have the lineage of William McClung (Grandfather Billie) first to Greenbrier Co. ? I'm particularly interested in his brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents. According to Clarence Legg's Book "They Hacked the Clearings", two of Grandfather Billie's sisters married brothers of Andrew Moore (b 1752). Legg states it was William and David, but does not give names or dates. I am looking for the parents of an Andrew Moore (abt 1820-1910) who married Margaret Hefner in Greenbrier Co. abt 1840. I thought there might be a connection through the McClungs as this Andrew Moore settled in Fayette Co. This Andrew had a brother Hamilton (Ham) Moore that lived around Lexington, VA. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Marilyn
Hello, Can someone give me the answers to the following? 1. What district is Lewisburg in today? 2.What cemeteries are in that district? Thanks ____________________________________________________________________ Get free email and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1
Greetings List. This is my first submission so keep that in mind. My Greenbrier ancestor was James Butler who later removed to Gallia Co., OH where he died in 1811. He was married to Anne Sims. His children, all born in Greenbrier were Eleanor Butler m. James Claypool, William Butler m. Lacy Grey, Anne Butler m. Phillip Shintaffer, Sims Butler m. Nancy Robinson, John Butler m. Elizabeth Harrah, Thomas Butler (my line) m. Mary Robinson, James Butler Jr. m. Hannah Harrah and Isaac Butler m. Clarissa Sargent. Thomas, Sims and Isaac were married in Gallia Co., OH; the others were all married in Greenbrier. To the best of my knowledge they were all born in Greenbrier. They all removed with their father James to Gallia Co. except for James Jr. and John. James Jr. later removed to Indiana but I think that John stayed put in the general area of Greenbrier, Summers and Monroe Counties. Not having been to Greenbrier Co. to do any research yet, the best I can tell online is that James owned land on Muddy Creek and also on Mill Creek in Greenbrier Co. James Jr. owned land in Summers Co. between Lick Creek and Laurel Creek and also on Flag Fork and Fisher's Fork. John owned land on Ephram's Creek in Fayette Co. My problem now is finding where James came from before Greenbrier Co. As an aside, is anyone familiar with this family? Can anyone help me shed some light on this crew? I'm going to Greenbrier in the next month or so to do some research and am looking forward to it. Jeff Butler Winchester, VA.

Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (SARC) http://www.symantec.com/avcenter SULFNBK.EXE Warning Reported on: April 17, 2001 Last Updated on: May 29, 2001 at 06:22:42 AM PDT The following hoax email has been reported in Brazil. The original email is in Portuguese; it is followed by an English translation. CAUTIONS: This particular email message is a hoax. The file that is mentioned in the hoax, however, Sulfnbk.exe, is a Microsoft Windows utility that is used to restore long file names, and like any .exe file, it can be infected by a virus that targets .exe files. The virus/worm W32.Magistr.24876@mm can arrive as an attachment named Sulfnbk.exe. The Sulfnbk.exe file used by Windows is located in the C:\Windows\Command folder. If the file is located in any other folder, or arrives as an attachment to a email message, then it is possible that the file is infected. In this case, if a scan with the latest virus definitions and with NAV set to scan all files does not detect the file as being infected, quarantine and submit the file to SARC for analysis by following the instructions in the document How to submit a file to SARC using Scan and Deliver. If you have deleted the Sulfnbk.exe file from the C:\Windows\Command folder and want to know how to restore the file, you should contact your computer manufacturer or Microsoft for assistance. As an alternative, If you are running Windows 98 or Windows Me, see the document How to extract files in Safe Mode under Windows 98 or Windows Millennium. NOTE: The instructions in this document are provided for your convenience. The extraction of Windows files uses Microsoft programs and commands. Symantec does not provide warranty support for or assistance with Microsoft products. Translated English version: Do you believe that a friend of mine sent me an alert and the procedure that we have to follow for the possible infection of SULFNBK.EXE. And I had checked, just to make sure. An then... the file was there, hidden even of McAfee and Norton, maybe waiting something to start work. Well, see bellow the procedure that I followed step by step, and I found the file: 1. Start/Find Folders. Type the file name: SULFNBK.EXE 2. If it find, open Windows Explorer, browse into the folder where the file is and delete it. Do not click with left button on the file and do not open it. 3. Just delete it 4. Mine was on Windows/Command 5. The virus from the person who gave the alert was on Windows/Config Yes, Norton and McAfee do not detect it. We do not know if it makes some damage on the machine, but I think that anybody will not want to test it to know, will it? Folks, this is not fun, I deleted it from my computer. And my definitions are updated. Do the same, ok? A new version of this hoax has additional text stating the virus will activate on June 1st: It was brought to my attention yesterday that a virus is in circulation via email. I looked for it and to my surprise I found it on mine. .. Please follow the directions and remove it from yours TODAY!!!!!!! No Virus software can detect it. It will become active on June 1, 2001. It might be too late by then. It wipes out all files and folders on the hard drive. This virus travels thru E-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command' folder. The bad part is: You need to contact everyone you have sent ANY E-mail to in the past few months. Many major companies have found this virus on their computers. Please help your friends !!!!!!!! DO NOT RELY ON YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE. McAFEE and NORTON CANNOT DETECT IT BECAUSE IT DOES NOT BECOME A VIRUS UNTIL JUNE 1ST. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT OPEN THE FILE!!! Category: Hoax Please ignore any messages regarding this hoax and do not pass on messages. Passing on messages about the hoax only serves to further propagate it. Write-up by: Patrick Martin

I have finally found a reference to my ancestors' Civil War service. My g-g-uncle Nathan McMillian was Company E, 60th Regiment, Virginia Infantry (Confederate), also known as 3rd Regiment, Infantry, Wise Brigade. Apparently, another g-g-uncle, Robert, was also with this unit. And I suspect my g-grandfather Hiram McMillian was in this unit as a drummer boy. I am trying to find history and muster rolls. Can anyone direct me to sources for further information and research? Many thanks, Kathleen
Just wanted to let you all know that I got the virus that has the message "Take a look to the attachment" from a Mary Marti at mmarti@ktis.net who is on this forum. This virus, once you have it, will send a message directly to anyone that post a message to the list. If you have posted and get part of your message back with the message "take a look to the attachment" following the rest of the message, DO NOT OPEN it. Delete it immediately, then delete it from your deleted file. Mary Marti, I know you probably don't know you have the virus. You must have opened an attachment that had that note above in the message body. You need to stay off line or at least, not start your e-mail program as it will send that virus to everyone that you recieve an e-mail from. Remember folks, Rootsweb does not allow attachments through, so this message will come to you direct but may have the forum name in the subject. Never open an attachment unless you are sure it is safe and also remember some virus protection programs do NOT find a virus in e-mail. As soon as Mary reads this, I will get another message with the virus unless she has found out she has the virus and has cleaned her system. I belong to many Rootsweb forum and have got this message several times and have deleted it each time and have never gotten the virus, so don't panic, people, just be on guard, and when in doubt on an attachment, don't open, DELETE. For information on lodging in Lewisburg area scroll to REUNIONS on "Greenbrier GenWeb" site. After the reunion listings there is a chart with searchable motel/B&B sites.
http://www.wvlodging.com/list.cfm?psectionid=245 This site has all types of WV lodgings. There are B&B at both Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs. A wonderful site to go to is www.citynet.net Then you can select WV Domain by types - bicyling, white water, lodgings, etc That's how I got to above site. Barb
If you are loking to be fairly close to Anthony's Creek you should probably stay in White Sulphur Springs. It is smaller tham Lewisburg so it has less big motel type places but it is kind of charming. I know there are B&B's there but don't know the names right off hand. I'll check my WV vacation books and see what I can find. I have stayed at the Ft. Savannah Inn in Lewisburg. Reasonably priced, but rather od. It had a quite little swimming pool and was within walking distance of the courthouse! Vanessa
Hi all, Could someone suggest a nice, B&B type, place to stay in the Lewisburg area? Out of the way is good, but would love to be in the Lewisburg area or just north of there in the Anthony vacinity. Plan to be in that area the week of July 12th. Thanks! Cara
Juhling, No, I don't show any Callisons. What I sent is all I have right now. Caty Beard could very well be the daughter of the Thomas Beard who is the son of John Beard in that file or from the lineage of the Thomas born abt 1735 that I'm searching for. Thank you for replying. I'll keep a copy of this. Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "H. The Callisons of Greenbrier, Nicholas, Webster, etc. counties seemed to have a close relation with the Beards. The earliest association I have is a Caty Beard who married James Callison in Greenbrier County in 1820. Her father was listed as Thomas Beard. One would assume [by dates] that this might have been a grandson of the Thomas (1) Beard you list. Do the Callison marriages show up in your records? My 4th-Greatgrandfather, Samuel Beard left Greenbrier Co, WV with a party of 17 family and servants about 1796 and went to Adair Co, KY. He was born abt 1765. I think the Thomas, son of this first Thomas may be his father. I have Will information listed below for that Thomas that's in Greenbrier Co, WV Will Book 1 (prior to 1833) page 440, 1814, with the appraisement in the same book page 472, 1815. Does anyone know how I could get a copy of those two documents or does anyone have any information on Thomas? These Beards were pioneers in Greenbrier County and married into many of the other pioneer families. Thanks for any help anyone might have. Jim Descendants of Thomas Beard Generation No. 1 1. THOMAS1 BEARD was born Abt. 1715 in Scotland, and died in Probably Greenbrier Co, WV. He married JEAN MCNUTT Abt. 1731 in Probably Staunton, Augusta Co, VA. She was born Abt. 1711, and died in Lived In Greenbrier Co, WV. Notes for THOMAS BEARD: Thomas Beard was born in Scotland and came to America prior to 1730 to PA and then moved to Staunton, Augusted Co, VA, prior to settling on 1200 acres of prime land 3 miles northeast of Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co, VA (now WV). The Beards were among the pioneers of this county, noted for their industry, integrity, and interest in public advancement. They were bone and sinew of Presbyterianism in this comunity, and are among the first elders of this faith in this county. One grandson, Samuel, who married Margaret Walkup, was a Major in the Comtinental Army. Many of Thomas' descendents were doctors, lawyers, and public officials. Children of THOMAS BEARD and JEAN MCNUTT are: i. ELIZABETH2 BEARD, b. Abt. 1732, Staunton, Augusta Co, VA. 2. ii. JOHN BEARD, b. 1733, Staunton, Augusta Co, VA; d. 1808, Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co, WV. iii. THOMAS BEARD, b. Abt. 1735, Staunton, Augusta Co, VA; d. 1814, Greenbrier Co, WV. Notes for THOMAS BEARD: Thomas is a likely candidate as the father of Samuel Beard in my primary Beard file.
