    3. If you search on Google and put in "Helen Stinson" it brings up lots of stuff mixed with the nasa Helen. In about 30 seconds I found the listings below and a book available for sale. I had never heard of her but this looks to be interesting since my family had land in Greenbrier county in the 1700's...just may have to get a copy myself and see what's there!! 3. Apparently Helen Stinson's book is not widely available. From the requests I have received, I suspect that most folks don't realize what is in this book. For those of you who have not seen it, let me explain what it looks like. It is a series of terse phrases that some clerk entered to mention what topics were covered by the Court. Many times they are so brief, it is difficult to understand exactly what was done. In order to make it more readable, Helen has typed all the last names in all capital letters. The formatting consists of "run-on" lines. Even the dates for each court session are just typed into the middle of lines. The type is small [? 8 font?] so many pages consist of line after line of names of people who were appointed to juries, etc. There is very little genealogical information in most of the material. It does usually list orphan's names because the court had to appoint who would take care of them. More space is given to the witness' names on wills than what is in the wills. In essence, it is an index to records that may be available. I find it difficult to read and nearly impossible to scan easily. After a few minutes, I often revert to a hand lens. After several careful surveys, I'm often still not sure I know the dates. To further compound the problem of identity , in my case, I know there were 10-12 John McClungs living in Greenbrier County at the same time. This book makes no effort to distinguish which John McClung is being listed. So it is with all other common names. When someone asks for information on some last name only, it would be easier to Xerox the 10-50 pages than to try to find the name on that many pages. That could be a half day event. Basically, I am not in the lookup business. Jimmie Barnes and I have exchanged information for a number of years. When I saw his request for a lookup, I responded. None the less, I will try to honor all the requests I have received, but my genealogy time is often confined to less than 30 minutes an evening, and a single lookup can take that much or more time. Please be patient with me and over the next several weeks. I'll do the best I can with the requests. Finally, I do not know if the book is still available. The last I heard several years ago, the only remaining copies were being sold by Helen. I don't know if she has any left. Juhling McClung

    1. [WVGREENB] Cantrell/Pritt
    2. Abner Cantrell & Amanda E. Pritt were married 15 Mar 1861 by Wm. S. Breedon in Kanawha County, VA/WV. According to marriage records, Abner, was born circa 1838 in Greenbrier County, VA/WV to Christopher & Betsey A. Cantrell. The same record indicates that Amanda was born circa 1832 in Monroe County to James Andrew Pritt & Esther Robertson. In the 1870 Kanawha County Census we find Abner "Canterill" as HOH. He is living without Amanda, who had died in 1869. The house is recorded as follows: 267-267 Abner CANTERILL 26 VA Farmer James 8 VA Robert 5 WV Albert 2 WV William 17 VA Margaret PRITT 20 VA Franklin PRITT 14 VA James, Robert & Albert are sons of Abner Cantrell & Amanda Pritt. I am trying to figure out William Cantrell's relationship to Abner. I suppose that he is Abner Cantrell's younger brother, cousin or nephew. Margaret Pritt is the sister of Amanda Pritt Cantrell. I do not know Franklin Pritt. The Abner "Canterill" household is next door to: 268-268 Easter PRITT 55 VA Martha 21 VA Andrew 19 VA Harry 15 VA This is the home of Ester/Esther/Easter PRITT, the mother of sisters Margaret Pritt & Amanda Cantrell Pritt. Does anyone know the relationship of William Cantrell & Abner? Or the ancestry of Christopher & Betsey Cantrell of Greenbrier County? Thank you in advance for any information or guidance. I look forward to hearing from you & learning more about this very elusive family. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

    3. I wonder if this took place in an adjacent county or something. Helen Stinson's index is pretty complete. Under the last name in the index for either Walkup or Hanna, I cannot find any Elizabeths, Almiras or Valentines. As I previously mentioned, there was only one John Hanna mentioned in the correct time period, and it had something to do with something other than adoptions. I don't think the book on Court Orders is going to help you. 2. Reply to Cousin Karen (& ALL from earlier virus e-mail) Unlike Karen, who didn't open her e-mail because she didn't recognize the subject line, I was just thinking about that "subject line". Oddly enough, it appears that Peggy & I "separately" got an e-mail that "did" contain a subject line about our "family". Therefore, this virus isn't simply picking up addresses. It's ALSO picking up subject lines. My subject line read: Re: James Harrison Wood, from Fayette County to Nicholas County And that IS one of my subject e-mails that was sent out! Sincerely, Sandra
