Just a guess, in fact I can't even remember the name of the church right off hand, but seems that it may be in Sue or Auto area. Is there a cemetery to the right? The one I am thinking of, I have been in the cemetery but found no one I was looking for so I didn't take any pictures or record the name of the church. Sorry, I can't be more helpful!
Hi Folks, Mary Shipe <mshipe@inreach.com> has been kind enough to share an old photograph with us. It is of a church in Greenbrier County, possibly Presbyterian. Please take a look at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvgreenb/unkchurch.jpg> and let us know if you recognize it. Thanks! I want to thank all of you who helped me with our Fisher Families. I hope I can help others with their families sometime.
Hi Folks, I have added two new files to the Greenbrier Co. Schools section located at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvgreenb/schools.htm>. One is a list of teachers of schools with two or more rooms in 1908 and the other is a list of the Boards of Education, 1908-09. Lots of surnames on both lists. Happy Hunting! Is there anyone on this list that has information on hand that can tell me if any FISHER lived in Greenbrier County from 1870-1890, any marriages, census? Thanks so much.
you know actually I think you should call your local social security office and talk to them I'm sure they could direct you to the proper office and save you some time Good Luck take care, Debbie
Vivian, You don't need to write to all 50 states. Just to the Social Security Administration. If you look up this SSDI record at Ancestry.com http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/ssdi/main.htm You will see "Request Information" to the right of the death information. If you click on that and follow the directions that should solve your problem Norman ----- Original Message ----- From: <VivHy@aol.com> To: <WVGREENB-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 01, 2002 11:10 PM Subject: [WVGREENB] About that guidance I needed.... > Let me be more specific.... > > This person left town (Richwood, WV) in 1978 and just disappeared. Let me be more specific.... This person left town (Richwood, WV) in 1978 and just disappeared. His ex-wife, son, mother, two sisters, one brother, etc never heard from him again. He was one of the original "delinquent Dads". Well when his brother died (1987), we tried to find him and no luck, then his sister died (1995) and we tried to find him and no luck..then this past June (23-Jun-2001) his mother died...and we couldn't find him. Then last night we (my mother and I) went on line and she wanted me to look up a date of death of a Boggs cousin and I did....then for some unknown reason I typed in Gerald's name and there he was...dead! Had done this before and he did not show. Well he died just six months prior to her death. In fact he was listed as a survivor as no one knew that he was dead. Well according to the SSDI he died 10-Jan-2001, they had the correct birth date and the correct SS#....HOWEVER under the column for last payment (residence) they had < (72) > ....well when you go into the website and look up what (72) means the SSA says that it is an internal code and to ignore it... ...now being a novice genealogist and being a West Virginian....you don't tell me to ignore someone's internal code! especially when I am looking for documentation and a public record. Short of following a seasoned genealogist's advice (Joy Stalnaker at HCPD) and mailing a request for a death record to 50 states.....I decided to throw this one out to all of you....but in my haste I didn't quite give you the Who le Story.... Orpha Guy Puckett born 12/29/1897 - mother died when he was 3 and he was raised by his grandmother Liza Puckett. He married Phala Olive Haynes in 1926. I know he is a cousin but can't figure out from which line. Thanks, Jeanne stook1@gte.net
Is there anyone out there that knows anything about Ludella Seabolt who wrote newspaper articles? My grandmother had several clippings and they were usally stories about family reunions or trying to do family research. I would love to know if there is any access to the articles. The ones I have ask for family members to contact her but then I don't have the follow-up articles to see what she might have found. The article I have in front of me was of the family reunion of Walter Adkins and Hettie Eagle Adkins. Thanks, Jeanne
To Vivian, I have had limited success with checking online obituary and death records until I find what I am looking for. I know it is a slow and tedious process but there are lots of sites that can get you started and if you have the date of birth and death that certainly helps. Vanessa

Have a name, birth date, date of death, and SS number... ...can anyone tell me how I could go about finding out WHERE that person died. Death was in January of 2001. Been looking for this guy for ten years and now all of a sudden his death appears on the updated SSDI. Thanks. Peace to all in 2002, Vivian
I need the details on this family if someone has the 1870 Greenbrier Census. 1870 Greenbrier Census Humphrey, John WV GREENBRIER CO. ANTHONYS CREEK TWP 305 Sandy in Ohio
If some one has the time I need all the Humphreys or Humphreys families listed from the 1860 and 1870 census. Thanks for the help. Sandy in Ohio
I'm very interested in the Black family from Greenbrier county and possibly Augusta prior. My specific interest is in Abraham Black (supposedly b. ca 1755-d. 1828 in Cabell Co.) who is listed on published Greenbrier PPTs living in the Sinking Creek area (near the Hugharts, due east of Clintonville today). He shows up in Cabell Co. PPTs by 1820 though his son Adam was there by 1811 and son in law Andrew Hughart in 1809. I've not been able to connect him with the other Greenbrier or Augusta Black families though there were a number as early as 1750 in the Cowpasture and Beverly Manor area. Alexander, Samuel and William appear fairly early on. It appears that James and John Black signed the 1783 Greenbrier Land title petition Greenbrier Personal Property Tax Lists Black, James 1782/83 , 1786, 1792 Black, Samuel 1782/83, 1787 Black, John - 1786, 1787 Black, Joseph - 1786, 1796 Black, Peter- 1796 Black, Abraham on Sinking Creek 1796, 1805, 1815 Black, Adam on Sinking Creek 1805 These citations are not complete because at the time, I wasn't sure who I was looking for!! So if you get any responses that deal with the Greenbrier Black families, I'd love to hear about them. I am sending this as a mass mailing just in case. Today I received a message from Rich and Vanetta - my nephew and wife and this was the subject. .. Mendelssohn THE It has a downloadable file with it. Titled James.exe It showed some of the names from their wedding and so I thought it was something from their wedding and I downloaded it and then up popped a note saying it had a virus in the James.exe. - so didn't open it and then deleted the file right away. Just in case you get this please DONOT OPEN IT. Ounce of prevention worht a pound of cure they say the .. should have given it away as this was mentioned with the Brad 32 virus going around. I am not sure if they have gotten into my address book so am telling all of you about what happened today. Hope none of you get this. Judi
