    3. Marcus was a tailor who married Eleanor, one of four daughters of the Irishman John of Lexington. He owned the land on which Washington and Lee University now stands. Marcus also worked as a jailer for 25.00 a year. He next purchased a 2 story log building known as the Barracks and used by soldiers in 1812. This building still stands opposite the jail. In the parlor, he put up the first wallpaper ever seen in Lewisburg. He was Captain of the 2nd Batallion of the 79th VA regiment of Militia in 1823. They had eight children: 1. Yandaloo de Marguerite 2. Marshall Cicero 3. Abarella Berdeaux Bisextile 4. Marcus Dianthecal 5. Elizabeth Ann Marcus sold his property in the 1800's and moved to Missouri. If you can open word documents, I can send you copies of the pages. I am looking for my GOSHEN family and would appreciate any information and lookups that relate to this family: Marcus H. Goshen (b. c1788) & Eleanor Galbreth (b. c1787) lived in Greenbrier Co, VA until somewhere between 1840 -1850 when they moved to MO and elsewhere. They had children some of whom who may have lived in Greenbrier as adults: Charles A. Goshen (b. c1814) and wife Jane Marshall Cicero Goshen (b. c1822) Yandaloo de Marguerite Goshen Elizabeth Ann Goshen Abrelia Goshen (b. c1824) Marcus D. Goshen (b. c1831)

    3. Thanks Sherry, that's great stuff! Whose CD is that? I looked yesterday at the LVA site that has Rev War Cards but could not find a pension for any Joseph GEORGE?? I did find a Rev War Public Claims entry card #54 for a Joseph GEORGE of Fauquier Co?? And I did not have Joseph GEORGE from the 1782-4 Hardy Co Cen. Thanks. Would you have data from that census?? And yes, I descend from the Geo SEE <1690 Platinate, GER-1751 Hardy Co, WV [wf Margaret], via their son Frederick 1711-scalped 1763 Muddy Cr,Greenbrier Co,WV [wf Catherine Vanderpool?], and their son Geo 1755 Hardy Co,WV-1835 MO m 25 Dec 1777 Greenbrier Co,WV by Rev Alderson to Martha GEORGE [Martha's parents uncertain, maybe Matthew or maybe Joseph of Hardy Co, or the many other possibilities in Greenbrier at that time??] If you are a MORRIS, I suspect that you descend down from above Frederick SEE via his son Michael who m ca 1778 Eliz MORRIS?? 3. George See is in my family tree too. According to my disk, Geneological Records: Early West Virginia Settlers, 1600-1900's, Joseph appears on the 1782-1784 Hardy County Census, as does Susannah and for her it says "gone in 84". It shows his estate settlement was 06/01/1840. Joseph enlisted in the Revolution in 1781 and served six months under Captain James Cunningham of the VA troops. Applied for Pension 12/25/1833, cert issued February 28, 1834. Born Richmond County VA 1757, died June 23, 1837. 3. I am currently transcribing and indexing a number of early tithable and land records for the Greenbrier area which I hope to post on the Greenbrier, Summers, Pocahontas, Monroe, and Kanawha Co Genweb pages to reflect the earliest, permanent settlement of the area. To better understand the geographic landmarks listed in the records, I would like to request some feedback on the following locations. Using only my WV Atlas, I cannot always tell whether the historic name is the same as the current name and would like some discussion on these "Greenbrier" locations. Please let me know if the following descriptions are correct from an historical perspective: Greenbrier: Area includes rivers draining into the Greenbrier River, whose headwaters are north of Durbin and Bartow, WV in Pocahontas Co, and mouth just south of Hinton, WV in Summers County. In late 1700s, the area known as the Greenbrier included Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Summers and Monroe counties. Little Levels: Area around Hillsboro, WV (now in Pocahontas County) Spring Creek: Area around Renick, WV Sinking Creeks or Two Sinking Creeks: Area around Hughart and Williamsburg, WV Anthony's Creek: Area east of Anthony, WV in the Monongahela National Forest Howard's Creek: Area north of White Sulphur Springs, WV Great Levels: Area just west of Lewisburg, WV Muddy Creek: Area between Asbury and Alderson, WV on west side of Muddy Creek Mountain. Wolf Creek: Area around Wolf Creek, WV (southeast of Alderson) Sink Hole or "Sinkholds": Indian Creek: Rich Creek: Thanks for your assistance, Sara Patton

    3. Hi Nan! All you need to do for any city in the US is go to www.rootsweb.com and click on US town/county database. It will ask you to type in the towns name and the state you're looking in and it will give you the county the town can be found in. Really nice for census images! 3. Hello all, I am new to your list and hoping someone can help shed some light on my family. My ggggrandfather was Edward Williams, and my ggggrandmother was Margaret Ocheltree Williams. I found somewhere online that they were married on 08MAR1832 in Greenbrier Co., (W)VA. Where can I write for a copy of this document? I would also like any information regarding Edward & Margaret. They had children Harrison O., Elizabeth Jane, George W., Asa, Margaret, Hannah L., and my gggrandfather Thomas Marion Williams. They were in the 1850 Lewis County (W)VA census, and next in the 1860 Clay County IL census. Harrison stayed behind in either Greenbriar or Braxton Co.'s, and fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was supposedly shot in his arm. He is buried in Omaha, Boone County AR, in the Omaha Cemetery. Asa was died during the Civil War in Clay County IL. George fought in the Civil War, but I don't know what happened to him. My gggrandfather was a chaplain during the Civil War and had an "iron railroad bar" dropped on his arm while tearing up tracks, and also caught a disease (disentery?) which basically took his life in 1906. The last 3 brothers all fought for the Union side. I have quite a bit of information on Thomas and his wives/children, but would love to know more about the other siblings and especially his parents! :) Thank you all for any help, and glad to be a part of your list! Have a nice Monday everyone! Trish in Independence MO :)
