    3. Hi Melinda, I remember writing to you quite awhile back about these Carts. Did not have time to thoroughly research the family at that time, but a message from you is with my Cart info. I will just throw some more info out to see what comes of it. It is a line, which intermarries with the Vincent/allied families several different times. Here is another that we are related to. I can give sources etc. if anyone wants them. Descendants of Washington Taylor Cart 1 Washington Taylor Cart b: 1848 in Monroe County, Virginia d: 1905 .. +Sarah Frances Jarrett b: 1847 in Elk District, Kanawha, Wva d: 1934 . 2 Lina Cart b: 1869 . 2 Ranson Erastus Cart b: 1871 in Elk District, Kanawha County, West Virginia d: 1934 ..... +Sarah Kathryn Taylor b: 1872 in Roane County, West Virginia d: 1948 . 2 [1] James William Cart b: Abt. 1872 in Elk District, Kanawha, Wva d: 1925 ..... +Maria Helen Knotts . *2nd Wife of [1] James William Cart: ..... +Mamie D. He reports information of a Carrie Carte as well. That information does seem to qualify the information about baptism and birth date and location, which you have. Alot of the Carte information which John sent me comes from the LDS Ancestral File. It is a descendancy list for Johan Leonard Karg/Carte, the presumed father of Johan Adam Kart. Johan Leonard Karg, was b. 1720. He reports that Carrie lived in Charleston, SC, and descends from Washington Taylor Cart and Sarah Francis Jarrett. I also see a couple snail mail addresses of other Cart researchers, should anyone want that information. This is a line, which I always wanted to work more on. I have lots of Carts of various spellings in my FTM, including three pages which are related to my husband. I have always wanted to research this line, more fully. I will continue to see what I can come up with. Always glad of corrections and additions and finding new cousins, as well as sharing information. Happy hunting. 3. Hi Melinda, Well, I can sort of tie into the Conrad Cart lines. Actually this line, is why I am interested in the Carts. Descendants of Mathew Conrood Cart 1 Mathew Conrood Cart b: 1862 in Greenbrier County, Virginia d: 1895 .. +Rosantha C. Jarrett b: 1862 in Elk District, Kanawha County, Virginia d: 1890 . 2 Effie Cart ..... +? Carnes b: September 09, 1901 in West Virginia d: January 30, 1987 .... 3 Matthew Thornton Carte .... 3 Henry Frye Carte .... 3 Madelyn Carte ........ +? Newhouse .... 3 Maxine Carte ........ +? Jarrett .... 3 Effie Carte ........ +? Pauley . 2 Charles W. Cart b: August 15, 1890 in Elk District, Kanawha County, Virginia Do you connect to the above line? I have another BOOK! :-) Unfortunately it does not agree with everything that you list for information about this family. :-) That is not to say that your information is incorrect, just that there is alternative info. From what I am figuring out the David Thomas Line, that I am making a stab at researching, must tie into this cart line, in some way. I am still studying it. The book, which lists alternative info for the line of Conrad [Coon-rod] Cart and Mary Vance is: Ancestors of KVGS [Kanawha Co.] members Vol 5. The contributer is Judith c. Brinegar, 1490 Norwich Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27107. It was apparently contributed in 1986. She is related to the line through George Washington Cart, who married Sophie Russell Taylor, Okey Gerald Cart, and his son Russell Leroy Carte. She is the dau. of Russell Carte and married David Keith Brinegar. I am wondering if the Conrad Cart that you list could be the son of one of Adam Karg's brothers/sisters maybe? We may be dealing with two Conrad Carts here. I will try to form a better message with the differences in the information, soon as I can. The book says that Conrad Cart was b. in 1784, in Kanawha WVA. And Mary Vance, was b. in 1780. Richard David Carte b. 1821 in Greenbrier Co. and he married Sybil Scott, who was b. and d. in Greenbrier Co. That gives you a start on the problem. I have some info from another good Cart researcher, and will look that info up too, soon as I can. Have to take a lunch break right now....:-) Can there be two Conrad Carts married to Mary Vance, who had a son Richard David Carte? :-) Happy hunting. I could try to look them up in other material, if I had a few more facts. :-) I assume that they were from Greenbrier Co.? 3. Hi Sandra, The dates for the Callisons found on p. 41 of the Heritage Book, start before 1800. There seem to be another group of Callisons on p. 40, which I do not have. That info was submitted by Alice W. Callison and Gilmer W. Callison. Refferences "History of Pocahontes Co. WVA 1981". The info on p. 41 was submitted by Sue Callison, Written by Gilmer Callison. James Callison was evidently b. prior to 1800 because his will was dated 1807and proved in 1808 Graninger Co. Tn. It lists heirs. There is alot of Callison info, most of which is after 1800. Elisha Callison [1792-1852 m. Margaret Bright [Peggy] in 1821. One of their sons, Elisha Francis Callison, MD married Sarah E. Renick [Sally] Let me know if you want further info about the family. 1. [WVGREENB-L] Thomas Census info
    2. jarmscoop
    3. Hi Karen, Well, I see that I have confused you. I do not think that there are two George W. Thomas's. I did several messages about the Thomas family. And it was all like a lineage. So, while I listed George W. on a couple pages, I think you will see, that on one he was listed as a child. On the other, he was listed as a husband, with his family. I have an 1850 Virginia CD [Broderbund] #309. It lists a David Thomas in Fayette Co. He is age 83 and a farmer. His wife is "Jane" age 76. A Mary age 36. This sounds like it could be The father of David Anderson Thomas. The Greenbrier Co. book indicates that this David is assumed to have married an Elizabeth. However; based upon what we know of subsequent generations, is it possible that this "Jane" was really Elizabeth Jane, who went by the name of "Jane". In the information that I have for this David Thomas, I do not see a dau. Mary. It is possible that the contributer of the information for the family did not have all the children's names. I do see that David's son Solomon married a "Mary". Could he have died prior to 1850 and his wife be living with the Father in law? Guess the 1850 census does not show relationships. I do not have enough information on this family to figure out if the ages of Solomon or Mary, might be in the ball park of the ones found in the census. I also see another family of Thomas listed in the 1850 Fayette Co. Census. Could these have anything to do with the David Thomas line? John? age 49 Nancy age 47 Jas D. age 16 [Joseph?] Nathan? age 13 Caroline? age 12 Mary L. age 10 We find an Elizabeth Thomas in Augusta Co. 1850 Census. She is living with Isacc? White. He is 46 years old. His wife, Mary C. is 36 years old. This Elizabeth Thomas is age 56 in this Census. Could Elizabeth be Mary C.'s mother? Have no idea if it connects to anything with the David Thomas Line. Hopefully those who are actively researching Thomas can find use for this information. I do have some Thomas people in my files, but have not really researched them. There are other children and people living in the household. There are no Elizabeth Thomas's listed in Greenbrier Co. itself. The Greenbrier Book lists Elizabeth Jane Thomas b. 1842 and also Elizabeth Woodson Thomas b. 1850] as children of David Anderson Thomas. I am assuming that we would be looking for a Jane for the other Elizabeth, unless she died early or something. I am just making guesses here, based upon your question about two Elizabeths. I show this mysterious Lizzie in my files. Wonder if she could be an Elizabeth who connects to David's family? Livesay family is one of my more thorough studies and connections. Anyone know this Lizzie? I am sure Lizzie must be an aka for Elizabeth. Descendants of Lizzie Thomas 1 Lizzie Thomas b: WFT Est. 1862-1882 d: WFT Est. 1887-1966 .. +George Fountain Livesay b: August 26, 1866 d: WFT Est. 1887-1956 . 2 Margaret Livesay b: Private ..... +Claude Lewis b: Private . 2 Marie Livesay b: Private ..... +Victor Booth b: Private Here is another Thomas Line in my files. Any connections? Descendants of Thomas B. Thomas 1 Thomas B. Thomas b: Abt. 1868 in Virginia d: Bet. 1910 - 1920 .. +Arminta Jane Legg b: March 31, 1874 in Roane County, West Virginia d: July 25, 1947 . 2 Ruby Elizabeth Thomas b: Abt. 1906 in Clay County, West Virginia ..... +Fleming O. Butcher b: Abt. 1893 . 2 George R. Thomas b: Abt. 1909 in Clay County, West Virginia ..... +Mildred Hissom . 2 Clyde Thomas b: Abt. 1911 in Clay County, West Virginia Now here is an interesting one, Karen. See if you agree that this might be David Anderson's family. The dates are a little different than the ones in the Greenbrier Heritage 1997 Book, but I have found some other discrepancies in the book, so am not really upset by the dates. This is an Anderson Thomas found in 1850 Greenbrier Co. Census. He is listed in the Census as being 30 years old. The Greenbrier Book says he was b. in 1817, which would have made him 33 years old in 1850. This Anderson Thomas in the Census is married to an Amanda age 30. The Greenbrier book does not list an age for the Amanda that David Anderson Thomas married. Children listed in the Census are similar, though not complete of the list found in the Greenbrier Book. The Census lists these children: James W. age 11 Elizabeth J. age 9 a male age 7 Richard age 5 Elijah age 1 month. The Greenbrier Book lists these children: George W. James W. Elizabeth Jane David Richard Elizabeth Woodson Lavinia A. Elijah W. Here is another, We have a Solomon married to Mary, in 1850 Greenbrier Census. Solomon is 46?? Mary age 40 Joseph age 23 Thomas Thomas age 21 Sarah age 20 Rachel age 19 Julian age 17 Catherine age 14 Margaret age 11 female age 5 Male age 5 Ellen age 3 The twins ? names are unreadable. There was a Solomon who married a Mary, who is said to be brother of David Anderson Thomas according to the Greenbrier Book. I am afraid that the dates are wrong for this to be the same one. But who knows? We have a Margaret Thomas in Greenbrier 1850 Census age 22 Husband is John Thomas age 25 Children: female 3 years Edward? 1 year Names are unreadable. The three families listed above, are the only Thomas families listed on the cd, for census 1850 in Greenbrier Co, itself. Thank you for reminding me about checking the census. If anyone thinks of another direction I should check, let me know. I do have quite a few resources available to research VA/WVA especially. As always, I am always glad for additional input or correction. We are only as good as our resources! You asked about an 1860 Census. Perhaps someone else online has that information. 3. Hello Marilyn, Off hand, I don't know where to get the wagon train lists. Ellen was the one who found some. I think they can be found in some of the books that we research. Will keep an eye out for that information and post to list, if I find some other ones. Thanks for the interest. 3. I found a great site on the Charleston Gazette page. The address is http://www.wvgazette.com/ Scroll down a little and there is a site where the Gazette is running excerpts from the paper from 1899 and also pictures from past editions. This is a great site, with mention of people from all over the state. I haven't had time to look at all the photos of course, but there is some interesting information there. Janet Estep

    3. Hi Joyce: I am really curious about this Robert Means that you are talking about with the Thompson family. I have Robert Means as a direct ancestor and none of this sounds familiar to me. If it is the same one. I know that there was another Robert Means who evidently was a land spectulator in the VA/WV area. Our Robert came here from Co.Tyrone, Ireland about 1782 and he married/1 Jane Neeley, m/2 Mary Henry and m/3 Margaret ? He d.ca 1835 in Lewis Co.,WV. Does any of this ring a bell to you? Bette
