Hello List...sometimes this gets very confusing to me especially when I subscribe to so many lists, as many of you do, and read double postings on the same family. I am not sure which list, if not both ( Greenbrier & McClung), that the message from Joyce in CA was asking about the parents of Anna? McClung who married Clark Deitz and were the parents of Beulah Deitz that married Clowny Romine Kesler. Both Linda Duffy and I answered Joyce's question. Linda and I both work the Kessler/Kesler line in WV. My information differs somwhat on the name of Beulah's Mother. I don't have her listed as Anna but as Etta. Etta Florida McClung b. 26 Feb 1862 Crawley, Greenbrier Co., WV d. 13 Feb 1950. She m. 4 Nov 1885 Hanseford Clarke Deitz b. May 1857. They lived on Turkey creek and later came to Sunday Road, Hico, WV. Their first home burned in the 1890's or early 1900's. Then they rebuilt their home which was standing in the 1990's and was owned at that time by the McCunes. REF: Some information from Fayette Co., WV 1900 Census Some information on this family from the book "The History of Sunday Road Baptist Church", by David Allen Sneed pastor and compiler July 1993, copyright 1996. No part may be reproduced without permission of SRB Church, P.O. Box 98, Hico, WV 25854 Marriage and other information The McClung Family Association Journal #IX, Sept. 1977 pg21 To continue---- Etta Florida McClung was the daughter of William Wallace McClung 1821-1887 and Harriet Eagle 1829-1898. William Wallace McClung was the son of James McClung 1770-1824 and Mary Alderson 1787-1870. James McClung was the son of William (Grandfather Billy) McClung. I hope this helps Joyce and anyone else that is working this line and I apoligize for the double posting and will try and pay closer attention from now on. Hi Jimmie, Thanks for the help. This is called "fuzzy brain". I looked for a John B. McClung and did not think that it might stand for Bollar. Should have known to look for that. Appreciate your help. There was one John B. McClung listed on a page beyond the Greenbrier pages, but did not have that page. I felt that probably was the wrong one. :-) Joyce in Ca. Our Extended Family In a message dated 6/19/99 9:29:00 AM !!!First Boot!!!, [email protected] writes: << X-Message: #1 Date: Fri, 18 Jun 1999 10:55:09 -0400 From: Jimmie Barnes < > To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [WVGREENB-L] Burr McClung Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit [email protected] wrote: > > Does anyone know who the parents of John B. Hi again to everyone out there! I want to thank everyone on the lists you have provided information and so willing to share! I recently received information the following information from a kind gentlemen that now has given me a couple of more leads on tracking James! His full name was James Madison Atkinson. His tombstone indicates his birth date as 1821. He was buried August 2, 1883. His wife, Julia Ann McClanahan, born 1829, was buried Feb. 26, 1905. They are both buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Kanawha County, WV. I am hoping this new information my trigger some new responses that will help me find out who the parents of this James was. Thanks again! Karen

The numbers represent the card numbers, and are only effective if you are on the V file. I believe these to be our line. Both Joseph Sr. and Jr. were found in Monroe Co. tax records. I believe Joseph Jr. was in Kanawa Co., but he died in 1821. I know that Joseph Sr. was in Shenandoah Co. as well as Greenbrier Co. in different years. Joseph Sr. seemed to move around the most, so when in doubt, would figure that is Joseph Sr. Joseph Sr. died in 1834. Hope this helps in figuring who is who. I had another url for this, so if this does not work, let me know and will look for the other address. It is very tricky to get it to do right. Are there any Dixon researchers out there? Mixed into the research on Burr etc. that I am doing today, I find a Joseph Dixon married to Nancy Dixon. Think I reported on all the Burr family, who married with the McClungs at some point. I did not update my own records, so am doing that today. Joseph Dixon appears to have been born about the same time as William Dixon who married Nancy Vincent, sibling of Joseph Vincent Jr. Can anyone tell me if Joseph Dixon is related to William Dixon? Anyone connect to either Dixon? Joyce in Ca. Our Extended Family
There is an article in the GBrier Heritage 1997 book, about Almira and her husband Early Lee Burr. It states that Almira Deitz is related to Grandfather Bill, Rev. John Alderson, William Dietz, Robert Walkup and other early Greenbrier Co. settlers. Would this make her a child of Sarah Louise McClung and Katy John McClung? The McClung book does not show children for Sarah Louise. There is a bunch of info in here about Early Lee Burr and Almira Jane Deitz. If you need it, let me know. Sooner or later, I will get back to you, or feel free to nudge me a little, if it has been a while on requests. Hello Memucan Walker, 1764-1836, was in Greenbrier Co. probably by 1790's. He was a Revolutionary War soldier and an early school teacher in Greenbrier Co. My information says he was born in either Greenbrier Co. or Lunensburg Co. SC. and spent some time in Maryland. His second wife was Raphel Lewis, daughter of Hezekiah Lewis. Does anyone have any proof of who his parents were or any brothers or sisters? I have his son Joel and his wife Mary Lucinda Fuel (SEWELL?) and some of their descendents. Is it possible for any one to do a lookup of a possible will for me? Thanks. Always glad to share what I have. Hello everyone, I have been researching in the realm of Legan/Legon Hughart who married Martha Frances Walker. An Elizabeth K. Hughart, who was a sister of Legon's, married James A. Walker. Both are children of James A. Walker and Nancy Legg. I just tied them together as siblings, this morning, thanks to verification from the work of Richard Legg. I found a very interesting article in the "Greenbrier Co. WV. Family Heritage Book", today, concerning the family of Legon Hughart. His name is spelled Legon there, though I have seen it spelled Legan. The siblings and parents of Legon, as well as children of Martha Frances, and Legon Hughart are given. Clyde Leonard Hughart, who is evidently grandson to Legon's son Joseph, did the report. It was based on an interview with Sarah Hughart, dau. of Legon. She was almost 100 years old in 1980. I have updated my FTM with the information, and would be glad to send the information to you, if you let me know that you are interested, via a gedcom or FTW. Could also do a "genealogy report, rtf if that is preferable. It seems easier to do it that way, than to write the article. A cute story in the article concerns the fact that Sarah asked Legon, her father, if she could accompany him on his trips to Greenbrier Co. to see his relatives there. She was told that she could not go, because she might "get briars in her feet". Talk to you later, Joyce in CA. Our Extended Family
>From stories told by my grandma, Annie Pearl Barefoot Daugherty, to her daughters. They took them down in shorthand and on tape and then transcribed them. ------------------- While Jason Daugherty was in the Ranger Service (Fannin County TX Rangers-my aunts confused this with the Texas Rangers. Jason was not in that group, but the local county Rangers), his company had a young man under arrest named Garl Vinson/Vincent who had been one of Quantrill's band. He had come from Missouri and had never taken the oath of allegiance to the United States (after The War) and the Texas Rangers had a warrant out for him They captured him and had him under guard in a tent. Jase Daugherty and another Ranger were guarding the tent that night. When morning came and they passed the prisoner his breakfast, Vincent was gone. A hole was cut in the tent with a pocket knife and the man was gone on a horse which was saddled and standing behind the tent. When Jase Daugherty and family came to the Indian Territory, he met Garl Vinson/Vincent's younger brother, Grant. (Also Garl's son, Charlie). Charlie held leases through his Indian wife and he let Jase and his sons Ed and Osborne have leases in the Indian Territory near Wynnewood for no charge. When Grant was 9 years old, he was hung from a tree by the Union soldiers because he would not tell where his brother, Garl, was. A Negro crawled out of the brush and cut the boy down. Uncle Grant was the sheriff of McClain County (OK) in 1911 and Ed (my grandfather and Annie Pearl's husband) went from Blanchard to Purcell to work as his deputy for about six months. John Swain, a U.S. Marshall in Purcell, OK, killed Garl Vinson/Vincent over lease land around Paoli. Then Charlie, Garl's son, immediately killed Swain, but surrendered himself to the authorities and was exonerated at the U.S. courthouse in Purcell. It was never proven that Charlie did kill Swain. It was thought that the two men killed each other. - ---------------------------- Now.. I don't have this written down, or I can't find it. But I remember them telling the story with a little more detail. I guess they were being careful about what they put down in print because the families were still around Purcell. But as I remember how they told it: They said that Swain, was really McSwain and that he had been a member of a gang in the El Paso TX area. (A brother of my grandma lived there and told about that part) Anyway, after one robbery, the gang split up and McSwain disappeared. He appeared later in Oklahoma as a US Marshall and under the name Swain. But the Barefoots and Daughertys knew who he was. Anyway. The way I heard
