Hello group, First thank you all for the very kind words. I must admit there have been a few times when I was ready to pack up my toys and go. This was not due to any of the WVGenWeb CCs but rather a small group on DISCUSS who has to pick apart my every post to the list. It use to be the ALL list and the same group of people on that list until it was closed for general Project use because of abuse of the list. I made a post on DISCUSS last night that perhaps I should not have. One of those who constantly attacks me and my ideas posted a message addressing me as Leslie and had the subject as Leslie. I had politely ask her before off list to not add the LIE to my name as I personally find it offensive. Last night I told her again on the list. Now for some good news. We have had two offers of server space that are willing to host the wvgenweb.org domain and provide sub directories for any county site that wishes to move also. Nate Zipfel has made the offer with no strings attached. Counties would show as www.wvgenweb.org/~jackson/ for example. Dale Grimm, <dale@madisoncooh.info> said: You can consolidate as many county sites as wish to participate under the domain wvgenweb.org, which you already own. You will be able to set up whatever subdomains you wish, so, for example, Lewis county would be http://lewis.wvgenweb.org . That county coordinator would be able to set up the e-mail account whatever@lewis.wvgenweb.org . If a county coordinator does not wish to participate, you can still give them the subdomain and point it to whatever server they are on. You would be charged $X per year for each 50mb disk space and 1250mb monthly transfer. If you had 10 counties participating using a total of 175mb disk space, you would be charged $XX per year and have the availability of 200mb space. I have not tried to contact the State of West Virginia or the or the WV Department of Archives and History. Does anyone have good inside connections to either one? Based on the offers that I have, does anyone think that we need to investigate to see what the state is willing to do? Les
I missed out on something here. Why is WV talking about moving all their files to another server? Are all the other states going to do the same thing? It sounds to me like we are trying to break away from the GenWeb all together and go out on our own. I for one do NOT want to move all my files from rootsweb. They have been good to us in the past 10-15 years that I have been with them. Les Please "pen" an email for Dr Armstrong. I'll forward it to him, like I said we developed a relationship and somehow (don't know why) but he likes me.
