    1. [WVGEN] The USGenWeb Project at FGS -- Day 2.
    2. Tina S. Vickery
    3. We spent the second day, much like the first day. We had folks drop by and visit the booth who were true USGenWeb Project supporters and cheer leaders. It is very humbling at times to hear the accolades from the general public and the greater genealogical community. We heard many comments that the USGenWeb Project among researchers and educators is one of the premier genealogical repositories and most recommended on the internet today. A must for all researchers! All of us working the booth (Betsy Mills - SC of Arkansas, CC in TX; Ellen Pack - CC in Mississippi; Betty Thomas - SC of Massachusetts, CC in NY; Joy Fisher (and husband Frank) - SC of South Dakota, CC, and USGenWeb Project Archives and myself have throughly enjoyed representing the Project and the terrific work we all do. One of the most exciting stories today was, and forgive me that I don't remember the state or county, was a lady that told us a story of family lore of her great great grandfather, I believe, being a triplet .. never proved. She was able to prove the triplet lore by a transcription of a newspaper article provided by a USGenWeb Project site. I would be remiss if I didn't also say that with our 11 year history that some visitors to the booth challenged us to do more, to provide more, and to work harder. That is a good thing! We were able to let them know that the USGenWeb Project volunteers are always looking for transcriptions of any kind .. bibles, cemeteries, census, marriages etc etc. We let them know that each and every one of our volunteers would be willing and very happy to help place their contributions on-line. We even helped them realize and discover that the materials that they have within their research and possession will benefit the visitors of the USGenWeb Project just by their contribution. I really wish I could adequately describe the spirit at the conference. The challenge of the work that we all do on a daily basis truly comes to fruition with the comments we hear from our visitors and the greater genealogical community. Thank you all for doing such a hard job very well done! Tina
