    3. I've been through that "fact-finding" with two groups in the past decade. The process of "fact-finding" isn't quite as easy as it sounds, and unless you've got some pro-bono legal advice it can get expensive very quickly. [wry] A financial manager ought to advise against spending that kind of money.[/wry] There are multiple sorts of not-for-profit status around, each state appears to have a state-level sort available, the IRS has one, the USPS has another (and those two do NOT necessarily overlap or even intersect) and I wouldn't be surprised to find some counties or large cities have one at that level. It just seems like a waste of time ... either now or later when someone has to tidy up the financial records of the USGenWeb so the Auditor will pass them. IRC that one needs to present 5 years worth of audited records to qualify for IRS NfP or 501(c)3 status.
