Hello WVGenWeb CCs I want to thank those of you who have taken the time to reply to my request, the five that posted on the list and I have two other votes direct. It has now been just over 30 hours since my request. I was hoping to have a much better response to the posting. I need at least twelve more supporting WVGenWeb Co-sponsoring this amendment to have the fifty percent needed. I do hope to hear from the other WVGenWeb members soon. Thank you. Linda has said it well. I will support whatever you think we should do, Les. I don't know a lot about bylaws, but you do, so please consider this an affirmative. Wes, I agree that WVGenWeb should be listed as one of the 5 states to sponsor this. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to voice our opinion on this important issue. I've been following this issue on the DISCUSS-list (and several other lists) and value the opinions of each side of the issue of how this amendment should get presented to the voting membership. The proposed amendment to the USGenWeb Bylaws appears to be a very good amendment and I will be voting yes on the amendment when it does come up for a vote whichever way it gets to the membership for a vote. For those who might not have been following this issue -- there are two methods for amending the USGenWeb Project bylaws in ARTICLE XVI of the bylaws. The first method is via State Sponsorship (Sections 2,3,and 4), the second method is via the Advisory Board (Section 5 -- in the case of an urgent matter affecting the well-being of The USGenWeb Project). With State Sponsorship, the proposed amendment will be voted on during the next annual election (July) and the voting membership will have more time to decide how to vote. With the Advisory Board method, it would be voted on "soon" and as Wes mentioned for those who have not been informed and have not been following this issue on the email lists, the few days they have for deciding how to vote or even if to vote may not be adequate. Please forward to all Project lists. ======================================== In accordance with the Grievance Committee Procedures, the Advisory Board has received and reviewed the qualifications and made recommendations on those members who volunteered to be on the initial Grievance Committee. The slate of committee members is listed below and will remain open for member comment for a period of ten days. After that date, the board will vote to accept or reject the slate based upon the discussions and member input at the first opportunity. We wish to thank all those who volunteered. As always happens when there are more volunteers than positions, the selection process was difficult. For the initial appointments to the committee we selected those members who either expressed life experience in handling grievances with mediation and arbitration through their employment, and those who have experience in training others. We also heavily favored those who have a familiarity with the process itself due to input into the committee or other processes similar to the GPC. These individuals have a hard job to establish the committee and to recruit and train volunteers. Individuals with experience in the area and with the procedures will help significantly. Please forward to all project lists. The Board list is currently not forwarding mail. Messages sent yesterday have not been received for almost 24 hours at this writing although they appear in the archives. The problem is being addressed but has not been resolved. The AB will be moving all formal discussion to AB-Chat (usgenweb-all@rootsweb.com) with copies to Board to make a record for the archives when it is functioning properly. I was also advised yesterday that the archiver for AB-Chat is not working. This too will be addressed as soon as is possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and I'll advise the lists when things have been resolved. Scott Burow NC - USGenWeb Project

Please note that the fifth of the eight MIAs was from Fayetteville WV. Not sure if there are other county connections here. Les DefenseLINK News: DOD News ----- Original Message ----- From: DoD News To: DODNEWS_HTML-L@DTIC.MIL Sent: Friday, December 01, 2006 2:36 PM Subject: Soldiers Missing in Action from the Korean War Are Identified U.S. Department of Defense Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) News Release On the Web: http://www.defenselink.mil/Releases/Release.aspx?ReleaseID=10243 Media contact: +1 (703) 697-5131/697-5132 Public contact: http://www.dod.mil/faq/comment.html or +1 (703) 428-0711 +1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 1222-06 December 01, 2006 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soldiers Missing in Action from the Korean War Are Identified The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of eight U.S. servicemen, missing in action from the Korean War, have been identified and returned to their families for burial with full military honors. They are Master Sgt. Alfred H. Alonzo Sr., of Tampa, Fla.; Sgt. 1st Class Robert C. Bucheit, of Hamilton, Ohio; Sgt. Francis E. Lindsay, of Esther, Mo.; Cpl. Joseph Gregori, of West Pittston, Pa.; Cpl. Darrell W. Scarbrough, of Fayetteville, W.Va.; Cpl. Homer L. Sisk Jr., of Ducor, Calif.; Cpl. Charles E. Sizemore, of Rushville, Ind.; and Cpl. William E. Wood, of Moorhead, Minn.; all U.S. Army. Gregori was buried in August; Bucheit was buried in September; Scarbrough, Sisk and Sizemore were buried in October; Alonzo was buried in November; and Lindsay and Wood's burial dates are being set by their families. Representatives from the Army met with the next-of-kin of these men in their hometowns to explain the recovery and identification process and to coordinate interment with military honors on behalf of the Secretary of the Army. The soldiers were assigned to the U.S. 8th Cavalry Regiment and attached units (1st Cavalry Division), when their unit came under attack by Chinese forces near Unsan, North Korea on the night of Nov. 1-2, 1950. During the battle, these eight and nearly 400 others from the 8th Cavalry Regiment were declared missing or killed in action. In 2000, a joint U.S. and Democratic People's Republic of Korea team, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), interviewed a farmer living in the vicinity of Unsan who told the team that while doing land reclamation work, he uncovered remains he believed were those of U.S. soldiers. The team excavated the burial site and uncovered the remains of at least 10 different individuals. They also recovered other items and identification tags belonging to these eight men. Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons in the identification of the remains. Some of the remains could not be identified and will be held for further research and analysis. For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1169. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- News Releases: http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/ -- DoD News: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/dodnews.html -- Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/dodnews.html#e-mail -- Today in DoD: http://www.defenselink.mil/today/ -- U.S. Department of Defense Official Website - http://www.defenselink.mil/ -- U.S. Department of Defense News About the War on Terrorism - http://www.defendamerica.mil/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe lshockey@citynet.net from the list, please send an email to STATE-COORD-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message -- No virus found in this incoming message.
