Hello again, Joan Young just posted on Rootsweb-Help that they have turned passive mode back on once again. Anyone that does have trouble with uploading to their county pages on Rootsweb, try changing the passive mode to the opposite that you have set and give it a try. If you are having no problems, you are welcome to ignore this message. Sorry I found it and it is turned off but it still won't let me sign on. Lesley, where do you do this? I don't see "Passive transfers" in my FTP Pro 95 program. Hello group, A heads up for those of you with your pages on Rootsweb, if you have problems uploading files, try going into your ftp settings and try turning off passive transfers and see if that works for you. RootsWeb has just made a change in how ftp works on their servers. In some cases, but not all, upload problems have been solved by turning off passive transfers. Les Shockey
Thank you all for the mighty response. It would not have occurred to me to use this email addy, as all I have seen this used for was political topics. Obviously I was lookin' for luv in all the wrong places? With many thanks to Suzanne Shephard, I think the problems are fixed (I say think,as I have done it and published, but our servers here have not propagated yet so I cannot test this evening) Have to be up at 6AM for work, so probably won't get a chance to test until after work tmo. Re: your questions as to where I did ask for help, I've dele'd many emails that were of no use but find 2 old ones to CChelper-L-request@rootsweb.com - one of which received an automated response that it was received - No personal response on either. I also saved some lengthy emails with Everette Carr, simply because he was SO nice and I liked him. (He couldn't figure it out either - ) **On: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvgenweb/cc-guide.htm#Requirements : USGenWeb's QueryExpress in conjunction with Surname Helper there is a link to: http://qexpress.rootsweb.com/index.html which has links to http://www.rootsweb.com/~cchelper/ and http://qexpress.rootsweb.com/mgrhome.html I had clicked on the "Click here if your Site is NOT managed by CCHelper or GenConnect. " which leads to http://qexpress.rootsweb.com/howtooth.html. This seems to have the most directions - it seems the name anchor would be the best - but can't get it done (actually would choose ANY of them at this point) (Most of these links lead right back to where I started) Moot Points at this time, as I am delighted with Suzanne 's solutions - and guess I'll see tmo if I've got it right. thanks! fran On 5/20/07, Lesley L Shockey <LesShockey@wildblue.net> wrote: > > Hello Fran, > > What addresses did you write to? I am presenting the below for AB debate and member input regarding the establishment of a special committee strictly for the help and counseling to county/local coordinators. Sincerely, Mike ---------------- The motion would have the Advisory Board establish a County/Local Coordinator Facilitator Committee operating under these guidelines/rules: 1] The purpose of the committee is to establish a website or USGW sub-website whose sole function is to help coordinators in their efforts as volunteers in coordinating and publishing local genealogical research, research efforts and resources. 2] The website will contain specialties such as web site guidelines, tips, and aids in the establishment, development, and maintenance of web site pages, query systems, search utilities, etc. It will also include assistance areas such as recruiting volunteers in transcribing, lookups, etc.; helps in developing working relationships with local genealogical/historical societies; interaction with other coordinators; understanding and involvement in other research areas, ie., mailing lists; links to election rules, bylaws, standard rules; and so on. The committee will include the USGW Help Pages (in any format) and publish sound/proven conclusions on the website. The committee will provide one-on-one help/counseling to those coordinators struggling to get started in their volunteer efforts. 3] The committee will be established as a Special Committee then with any subsequent historical success converted to a USGW Standard Committee in accordance with the current USGenWeb bylaws/rules. 4] The committee will be comprised of nine county/local members who do not hold a state or national USGW office. Achieving a state or national USGW office while a committee member results in resignation/removal from committee. 5] The Advisory Board will recruit and select initial and subsequent committee members. 6] The committee will elect it's own chair and other leaders. 7] The committee will submit a report of tasks, accomplishments, and plans to the Advisory Board every three months. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to USGENWEB-ALL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message -- No virus found in this incoming message.
