Note: Below is the latest motion that Mike Peterson has placed before the Board. I want each of you to be aware of this motion and if you have strong feelings one way or the other, please let your AB Reps know. Les. I move the Advisory Board establish a special fact finding study group which would: 1] Review and document current financial laws relative to non-profit organizations such as USGenWeb. For example, incorporation registration, unincorporated non-profit registration, 501(c)3 status, status quo and so on and what each would mean to this organization as possible effects/non-effects of possible needed future funding. 2] Develop a list of possible financial paths USGenWeb could pursue, or not, with potential advantages and disadvantages. 3] Provide a report to the Advisory Board (without recommendations) of findings. 4] The group will have five members who have demonstrated experience in organizational financial management. 5] The Advisory Board will recruit and select initial and subsequent group members. 6] The group will structure itself and the group leadership and assignments. 7] The group will provide reports of tasks, accomplishments, and plans to the Advisory Board every month. ------------------------ Mike Peterson RAL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~peteplym/ http://www.thegreatproduct.com/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~iadickin/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndemmons/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndtrail2/ USGenWeb Project information can be found at: http://www.usgenweb.com ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to BOARD-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Cheryl, Margaret, and other CCs, It has been moved by Mike Peterson and seconded by Greta that a County/Local Coordinator Facilitator Committee be formed. The motion is numbered 07-11 and is now open for discussion: Apparently your comments did not have much effect on Mike. Hopefully our CC Reps will have heard from others in SEMA who feel the same way and will take a position against the motion. Les
Hello Christina Hunt <chrisnina@gmail.com> is giving up the Tyler County WVGenWeb pages. Christina again thanks for the work you have done and good luck. Cheryl Thanks anyway Cheryl. As for the wvgenweb account, I guess I really did not expect someone to step forward and admit it. Supposedly someone would have had to provide Rootsweb with proof that I had turned the job of SC over to them and then had a confirmation letter sent to Rootsweb from my address. I have not had anyone show any interest in taking over the duties of SC. Rootsweb will not tell me the email address that wvgenweb is now registered to. They have confirmed that it is not any email address that I have ever had nor is it the email address that Becky used during the first 18 and a half months that she was SC. Les

Hello group, Did anyone in the WVGenWeb Project do anything to get the WVGenWeb account changed to the email address of someone other than me? The account is currently issued to an email address that Rootsweb says is not any of the email addresses that I have used in the past ten years and also is not the address of Becky Falin who was SC from 6/1996 to early 9/1997. If anyone has any idea what has happened or who has control of the account, please contact me off list at <LesShockey@wildblue.net> or <WVGenWeb@wildblue.net> Les
Hello group, It has been too long since I last made this request it seems. I need a few volunteers to assist me in visiting each of the WVGenWeb Project county pages to make sure that everyone is still in compliance with our Project rules and guidelines as well as the USGenWeb Project requirements for county web pages. Les
Hi group, I am sorry that Fran and maybe others have gotten the impression that this list was for political purposes only. Providing assistance to fellow WVGenWeb members should always be the primary purpose or reason that this list exists. As SC, there are certain messages that I am required to pass along to the Project members on this list. Quite a few of these messages that I am required to send contain material or ideas that I do not agree with. Some of these I am ask to send the message through multiple times. I only send them one time as I feel that you should not be required to read the same material multiple times. I did make several requests to obtain permission from the majority of the WVGenWeb members to sponsor the amendment that would permit all Project members a chance to vote on a standing Grievance Committee. It is not important to me how you vote when this appears on the ballot in July. What was important was to get one state to sponsor the amendment and prevent the Advisory Board from circumventing the bylaws by declaring it an emergency and thus rush it to a vote and not provide CCs a chance to really look it over and decide if it was something they wanted or not. I did not feel that the amendment qualified as an emergency and I do want to thank each of you for your support. After our initial effort six others state projects also voted to co-sponsor the amendment thus insuring that every member of the USGenWeb Project would have a chance to vote in deciding to make this major change in our Project bylaws. I also want to thank Cheryl for her very well written letter to the RAL in regard to his proposal on the Coordinator Committee. I would also like to thank Margaret and others for their comments on this proposal. I will be making a couple more postings to the list, either tonight or during the next day or two. One will be a request for volunteers to assist me. The other will an effort to see if anyone knows who hy-jacked my account, either accidently or otherwise. Les
*****PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL PROJECT LISTS***** The deadline for registration for voting in this year's election is rapidly approaching. The Election Committee has been working to clear any data glitches, verified email addresses, and have attempted to confirm positions with the appropriate XXGenWeb and Special Projects over the last couple of months. It would be prudent for all members to check their registration for accuracy, and for those new members who have not registered to vote in the annual election to do so promptly to secure your right to vote. There are important issues to be decided, and every vote is needed so that the views of the membership are known. This evening I was able to check my own registration and found the process very easy. With the help of the EC Chair, these are the instructions to register and update your membership: Register to vote and/or Update your membership: http://www.usgwelections.org/USGenWeb/Register.cfm 1. Go to the above site. 2. Follow the instructions on the first page. These will tell you how to receive a password if you have not already requested yours. Note that this is *not* a voting password. This password is for the registration records only. Your password will be emailed to you. 3. Once you have entered your password and ID number, click on continue. 4. The last box on that page, is "Vote in Elections?" Click that box if you wish to register to vote. 5. Next, click on "Update Record". This will take you to the page where you can view/edit your records. 6. Here you will see the states and projects listed that the Election Committee has verified in which you are a volunteer/member. 7. To edit the information (i.e. add a county name), on the line that has that project, click on "edit". a. Once you have edited information, you must click on the "Click this link" to save your information. 8. To add a new project, use the boxes below and follow the instructions listed on the page. 9. There is a link that says "no changes needed" that you can click on if your information is correct. 10. The last page enables you to change your password or you can click on "Finished". The deadline for registering to vote in the upcoming elections is midnight, May 31st. It's a simple process, takes less than five minutes, and it's your responsibility as members to insure your right to vote is protected.
