    3. Hi List, I could use some help on the SIMS families listed in the 1850 Fayette County census. I will begin with Sarah SIMS (d/o James SIMS and Elizabeth COTTON*) who married Peyton FOSTER (s/o Nimrod FOSTER and Betsy BROWN) September 6, 1825 in Nicholas County. I am not sure if this date of marriage is correct; it is from the Nicholas County site which lists dates of marriage submitted by researchers. Peyton FOSTER was first married to Nancy JOHNSON (d/o Wm JOHNSON Sr. and Amy NELSON) January 11, 1815; Nancy died September 6, 1825. I don't know where I got this date of death but had it before I found the Foster/Sims marriage date. As you can see Peyton's first wife died on the same day as he married his second wife. Could one of these be incorrect? To continue, Sarah died before 1848 according to the James Sims chancery suit that I posted in July. Her children were Mariah who married Jordan HICKSON bef. 1848, James FOSTER (b. c. 1831), Peyton FOSTER (b. c. 1833), Charles FOSTER (b. c. 1837), and Milton SIMS (b. c. 1824). I believe that Milton was Sarah's son from a previous relationship. This is from my interpretation of the text of the 1848 suit but he may be a son of James SIMS and Elizabeth COTTON. I don't have the census data for Mariah but have found all the sons on the 1850 census: # 158 Milton Sims 26 M Farmer (son of Sarah; his marriage data may list parents) S. L. Sims 31 F (this is possibly a second marriage for S.L. Sims as we see a daughter) Victoria Steele 9 F Sand. B. Sims 1 M # 159 Cyrus Wedge 60 M Farmer b. illegible Jane Wedge 66 F b. Ireland James Foster 19 M Laborer (son of Sarah) Peyton Foster 17 M (son of Sarah) Octava Young 11 F # 160 Johnson Foster 33 M Farmer (I believe that this is a son of Peyton Foster Sr. and Nancy Johnson--need confirmation) Mary Foster 26 F Thomas Foster 6 M James Foster 5 M Johnson Foster 3 Mary E. Foster 2mos. F # 176 Charles Sims 37 M Farmer $500 (this is Sarah's brother) ? Sims 26 F (there's a spot on the image making the first name illegible) ? J. Sims 7 F (idem) E. K. Sims 5 F E. L. Sims 3 F Lydia Sims 1 mos. F Charles Foster 13 M (son of Sarah) I have included Johnson FOSTER above as he immediately follows Milton, James, and Peyton. I do not have the names of any children of Peyton and Nancy (JOHNSON) FOSTER but do believe that Johnson FOSTER must be one of their sons. This has nothing to do with the Sims line but the Johnsons are also one of my lines. If anyone has the 1840 census I would like to know if Peyton FOSTER Sr. is listed in Fayette or Nicholas County. I found him in Nicholas County in 1820 and 1830: 1820 U.S. Federal Census Nicholas County, (West) Virginia Page No: 205B Enumerated by: Hedgman Triplett on: 26th day of December, 1820 Peyton FOSTER (I've added the notes in parenthesis) 2 free white males 0-10 yo (Johnson age 3 and ??) 1 free white male 16-26 yo (Peyton b. c. 1793) 1 free white female 16-26 yo (Nancy b. c. 1794) (Source: Bryant, Neva Jane Stout. USGenWeb Archives. 1820 Federal Census Nicholas County, Virginia. Online <ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wv/nicholas/census/1820.txt> 12 October 2001.) 1830 U.S. Federal Census Nicholas County, (West) Virginia >From an index: F236 Foster, Peyton # 177 No Township Listed His wife Sarah died between 1837-1848 and I need the 1830 and 1840 census to estimate her date of birth. *If she was born bef. 1794 then her mother would have been James Sims' first wife Phebe. Also I do not know when Peyton Sr. died. I'd love to hear from anyone interested the Foster/Johnson or Foster/Sims line. Thanks, Cathy
