Would very much appreciate a little help on a REID family in Fayette County. My great-great-grandmother Sarah Ann WOOD married 1st William A. DEMPSEY ca. 1845. Wm. died ca. 1867. I have been told that she married two more times: 2. Fayette County, West Virginia Marriages, November 27, 1872, James B. REID born in Scotland, widowed, and the son of Wm & Mary, and Sarah Ann DEMPSEY, widowed, and the daughter of Elijah WOOD. 3. Fayette County, West Virginia Marriages, January 14, 1873, John M. FOX, 60, widow, b. Greenbrier, resides Fayette, s/o John and Lucinda, and Sarah A. DEMPSEY, 46, single, b. Fayette, d/o Elijah and Rachel WOOD, by A. J. McCLUNG. It seems very odd to me that Sarah married a third time only 7 weeks after her second marriage. I wonder how this second marriage ended. Did James B. REID die? Was the marriage annulled? Was there a divorce? If she did marry REID, why is she listed as Sarah A. DEMPSEY (single) in the records of the third marriage? Is there anyone out there who knows who this James B. REID was?
