Sarah, Seems to be a discrepancy here concerning the date of marriage. Sherranlynn says: Turner, Fayette County, West Virginia Marriages-1866-1889-Turner, Page 160, 21 Jan 1887, Geo. W. Kincaid 26 b. Fayette and Sarah Martha Hughes 15 b. Fayette. while you list "June" as the month. Anyway Sarah would have been born ca. 1872 and not 1854. Further, Robert Huse that married Elizabeth DEMPSEY (md) April 8, 1868, he was 33 & she was 21: I didn't have an age for Robert and this does fit the age listed in 1870 census. Thank you. With census information already posted for Robert and Elizabeth Rachel I assume that Robert was a widower with 2 children in 1868. Anyone know who the first wife was? Hi, Cathy: I noted this also, so looked in the 1860 census for Robert and a previous wife. There is no listing for a Robert Hughes. I only found John Hews (b. 1835), Polly Hews (b. 1790), and the family of Seth Huse over in Fayetteville. I also looked in the marriage records. No previous marriage recorded in Fayette Co. I did note, however, in his marriage record Elizabeth Dempsey, Robert gave his place of birth as Nicholas Co. Perhaps this is where his previous marriage occurred. I checked death records for a wife of Robert Hughes dying sometime between 1864 (the birth of son John M.) and 1868 (marriage to Elizabeth). Perhaps his wife died in Nicholas Co., or the death not recorded. I also checked the marriage records for marriages of Robert's oldest sons George and John M., hoping it would list where they were born. I found no record. I also could not find a record of their deaths. (Not surprising for this era in Fayette Co., unfortunately. sigh.)
