    3. You're receiving this email warning about the newest virus on the loose, [email protected] I battled this virus at work only to come home and find several emails with the virus attached have been sent to me... that's how common it is. And those won't be the last, I'm sure. How do I recognize emails carrying this virus? 1-- I opened the email to find it blank. However, the attachment had a dual file extension to its name. For example: news_doc.MP3.pif or news_doc.MP3.scr. The attachments carry the badtrans virus --or-- 2-- The sender's email address looks like this: [email protected] --or-- 3-- There was nothing in the subject line or it said only "RE:" or it said "RE: something that may have pertained to me" which is why I opened it in the first place (the email, NOT the attachment). The BadTrans virus spreads like a worm but a Trojan is released. The Trojan logs the infected computer's keystrokes and emails them along with the infected pc's passwords to one or more of several addresses where the virus's creator then has access to them. Think that's not bad? Keystrokes include credit card numbers and billing information provided during online transactions... that's what makes BadTrans such a pain. Maybe you don't purchase items online, maybe you don't have to worry about someone getting hold of your passwords. But what about all the folks whose email addresses are listed in your personal address book who will receive an infected email from you after you've opened an infected attachment? The good news: The virus is easy to get rid of if you've got a good Anti-Virus program installed on your machine. And if you're a MAC user, this one probably won't affect you (that comes from the Apple Corp). The short of it: GET Anti-Virus protection and keep the definitions updated (once every two weeks). I recommend Norton's (www.symantec.com). McAfee and the program that came installed on your computer won't cut the mustard. More info on this virus can be found at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected] ml If I've ruffled any feathers, I apologize but the very least I can say is that I made you aware.
