When I get such a message, I do reply to the person, warning them of their possible infection. In order to reply, though, you can't simply hit reply; it is necessary to delete a character added by Badtrans to the return address. On all the copies I've received so far, this is an underline preceding their address (for example, my address if sent by Badtrans would be "[email protected]".)
