    1. [WVFAYETT] James A Treadway- married once or twice?
    2. Hi list I have been going through and cross referencing the information provided in Children of Jesse and came to a sticky point I was hoping someone could help me out with. According to the book, James A. Treadway, son of Jesse and Mahala Treadway, he married Elizabeth Dickinson and might have married a Ms WILLIAMS sometime before that. It seems straightforward until I checked with the Fayette Co Marriage Records (by Shuck) and found that he did marry Elizabeth Dickinson June 17, 1867 and was listed as single. According to Fayette County marriage records, it would appear that James could have married a M Williams AFTER Elizabeth. Another record appears later showing the marriage of J Treadway, son of J and M, to Ms M Williams. This J Treadway had been widowed and has the same birth year as James A, son of Jesse and Mahala. It seems to me that James did marry a Williams, as hypothesized by the book, only it was after his first marriage. TREADWAY James A md Elizabeth DICKINSON June 17, 1867; race, w; age, 24, 21; s, s, born; Fayette Co WV, Fayette Co WV, parents: Jesse & Mahala, Michael & n/a. (p.249) TREADWAY J md M WILLIAMS n/a, 1872; race, w; age, 30, 22; w, s, born; Fayette Co WV, Fayette Co WV, parents: J & M, P & P. (p.249) The book Children of Jesse says that James and Elizabeth had nine children together which would have been impossible if James did remarry five years later. Has anyone else found this discrepancy or maybe knows for a fact that the later children were definitely born to Elizabeth? Thanks so much!!!
