June, Did your gr-grandfather Caudill ever serve in any war. If so, there is a form you can obtain from a funeral home to apply for a free marker for him. You have to have proof of his service. The only cost for you would be the setting of the marker. The cemetery would do this for a fee. Hi, Jeannette: My g-grandfather Caudill was born in 1879, and I've never heard anyone mention or come across any record of him serving in any war (too old probably for WWI). It was through veterans' records that I was finally able to locate my paternal grandmother's brother, who had left home at a young age and was seldom heard from thereafter. We had no idea where he was. Although he was born in 1904, I came across a photo of him in a WWI sailor's uniform. I contacted the Adjutant General's office in Charleston and sure enough, he had served for a short time near the end of the war (he lied about his age). His family had requested the free veteran's marker when he died. And this is how I know he died in Dallas, TX in 1960 and where he is buried. Unfortunately, I was not able to find out this information for my grandmother prior to her passing away.
