Sorry, all!! Joseph Floyd McKinney's second wife was Mildred Ellen MILLS. After Joe's death she married widower Reuben James, grandfather of her son-in-law Floyd James. A little disclaimer: I did not compile this list and I'm not sure who did. There may be errors. It is a very old xerox of a typed list (and judging by the style of type, I'd say on an old manual typewriter). I do have some photos from this cemetery and, as I've transcribed the list, I've checked them against the photos I have. Anything in parenthesis is a notation by me. If you have questions about any particular person, I'll do my best to answer. Oh, and I've been told Joseph Floyd McKinney (husband of 1 Martha "Mattie Dillon and 2 Mildred Ellen James) is buried in this cemetery, but his is one of the many unmarked graves. Joyce, Re: Floyd Co., VA annotated census for 1850, 1860, 1870 You're very welcome! And many thanks to Barbara A. Reininger for such wonderful work. My Roops came from Floyd Co. and while searching for information on a second husband of a Roop Civil War widow, I found a link to a Floyd County site with the 1850 annotated census. There was a statement there requesting that Barbara A. Reininger be contacted for permission to use ANY information listed. The e-mail address was old but I got her new e-mail one from another person who had information on the site. Barbara was so kind and advised me that the site was soon to be removed (just checked and it is gone) but that she had put all her work on her own site and that it could be used freely. She wrote: "My research began with the Barnard & Shelor families of Patrick & Floyd Co., Virginia but I found I am connected to so many surnames in those counties, I have chosen to "study" the entire area so as not to miss anyone. Youll find the projects Ive worked on concerning this area of Virginia at this site." The statement on the first site was NOT put there by her. You can imagine the dance I did when I found information on several generations of Roop, Lester, Sumner families and the many families that married into these families. I don't know if there are similar sites for Franklin or other counties. Wish you the same kind of luck I had in finding more sites like this. Bev, I would like to have a copy of the wedding picture, too. Thanks so much. Carline cagee@ntown.net
So many on this list have a lot of different Johnson family records that I wondered if anyone can tell me anything about a man named Chapman Johnson, born ca. 1825, listed as a cooper in the Cabin Creek, Kanawha County census of 1870 with a wife named Cinthy and nine children? Thanks. Eve Hughes
Reading Barb Harvey's recent postings about Gertrude Settle, I have a question for her. Is this the same Gertrude Settle that married my uncle Claude Johnson of Page,WVA.? Claude was killed in the mines at a young age, and I thought that his wife Gertrude might have remarried. Claude was the son of Clark Johnson and Ella Reid. Claude was born in September, 1891 and shows up at home in the 1900 and 1910 census. I also have a John Kincaid, son of James G.Kincaid Sr. and Mary Tritt, who married my GGG Aunt Mary Johnson, daughter of John Brown Johnson Sr. and Elizabeth Sims. I believe John and Mary (Johnson) Kincaid are buried at the Kincaid Cemetery at Kincaid, WVa. Perhaps her first or middle name was Elizabeth. She was born October 6,1814 and died September 5,1867. John, her husband, was a Minister and died May 9, 1899. Their family show up in the Fayette county census'es of 1850,1860,1870(husband only). They are listed as the parents in the marriage record of Jincy, Mark, and Morris, their children. TJ
Hi Joyce: Appreciate hearing from you. Yes, I have the Fayette County History Book. Miletus H. "Leet" Skaggs (son of James O. Skaggs) , b. 1871 died in 1907 in a Coal Mining Accident. Another Miletus H. Skaggs (son of Bailey Skaggs), b. 1841 married Martha L. Wood This is another Miletus Skaggs back there in the mountains that I haven't figured out yet. I'll find him eventually who he belongs too. 1850 FAYETTE CO.,WV CENSUS HH#275 Hi Jim, The parents of Miletus Skaggs may have been Bailey Skaggs (s/o Richard Skaggs & Susannah Wood) and Mildred Emiline ? Have a look at Lyle LeMasters site: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/7054/Families/Wood/ You will find census data for Bailey Skaggs for 1840, 1850, and 1860. To all who wish to have a copy of the Edward James/Arminta Kincaid wedding picture I will be glad to scan it to you. I have to get my scanner connected to my new computer, hope to have that done this weekend. June (my cousin, both who descend from Reuben James through his son, Floyd) thanks for the wedding date and to the others who shared Arminta's parents' name with me. As to the Radford/Underwood names........our branches came from Franklin Co, Va. Reuben James' daughter, Ruth James m. William Radford and his son, Smith James, m. Martha Radford. Reuben's half-sister, Martha Hancock, m. Robert Underwood in 1839 and they came to Monroe Co., Va/WV abt the same time as Reuben James brought his family to Monroe abt. 1851. On the Franklin Co., VA website in the archives are the wills of the Radfords, including Martha Radford's father. Bev
