Hi, If any of your ancestors served in the military the government will make up a marker for you. But it comes to you or someone designate. You are responsible for getting it on the grave. My coz has several come to his house then he took them up to the family cemtary and put them up. Contact the Veterans Administration near you or call 1-800-697-6947. This is the Applicant Assistance Division. It says on the back of the VA Form 40-1330 they will help you complete the form. I haven't ordered one yet. Just coming up with some proof they served. There are several markers to choose from and the spouse can be on it also. Thought I would just pass this on to help. I know how it is to be one step from in the poor house. Good luck, Leigh

Hi, Jeannette: My g-grandfather Caudill was born in 1879, and I've never heard anyone mention or come across any record of him serving in any war (too old probably for WWI). It was through veterans' records that I was finally able to locate my paternal grandmother's brother, who had left home at a young age and was seldom heard from thereafter. We had no idea where he was. Although he was born in 1904, I came across a photo of him in a WWI sailor's uniform. I contacted the Adjutant General's office in Charleston and sure enough, he had served for a short time near the end of the war (he lied about his age). His family had requested the free veteran's marker when he died. And this is how I know he died in Dallas, TX in 1960 and where he is buried. Unfortunately, I was not able to find out this information for my grandmother prior to her passing away. How do I get a copy of The Cemetary Book 1?
hi June, I dont' know anything about any Hamilton's... My husband's maternal grandfather was Kenneth James Hamilton. Born between 1908 and 1911.. We're not absolutely sure of the 1908--so I'm hoping this is him in the Jenkins cem.. We know nothing of the ggp's.. so if anyone makes any connections it'll be great.. June, Did your gr-grandfather Caudill ever serve in any war. If so, there is a form you can obtain from a funeral home to apply for a free marker for him. You have to have proof of his service. The only cost for you would be the setting of the marker. The cemetery would do this for a fee. June, The last time I checked on flat bronze markers was several years ago. At that time the cemetery (in London) sold them for, if I remember correctly, about $800. I'm sure you could find them elsewhere cheaper -- it seems that the cemeteries who sell all the different things are much higher than a private company. Hope this helps, Neva

You should contact Fred Samsel in Fayetteville. He has been making some tombstones for his relatives and they are really nice. He does them all by hand. If you call him you need to talk to his wife Rosemary as Fred has a serious hearing problem. I am certain he will share info on how to make them. There is a cemetery on the old Carnifex Ferry Road that I used to own. It was called the Crist Cemetery and there are McCutcheons and Carnifexs burried there. It is referred to in the Fayette County History (1926)' John Cashion ----- Original Message ----- From: Telly and Gene Lawhun <tlawhun@core.com> To: <WVFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2001 5:42 AM Subject: Attn: Jeanette S.
