    1. [WVFAYETT] Loup Creek flooding
    2. June & Marco
    3. If there is anyone on the list who lives down Loup Creek, could you please let me know how things are there. My mom (who now lives in North Carolina) called this morning and said she'd heard my paternal grandmother's house was washed away early Sunday morning (that house has been there at least 50 years). PLEASE REPLY TO ME PRIVATELY. With the way this list is set up, that means you will have to cut and paste my address in "To:" box, replacing the WVFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com with my address: settleciocca@earthlink.net (unlike the Kanawha list which directs mail privately to the sender and which explains why so much mail on the Fayette list ends up going "to the list" because people hit the reply without cutting and pasting; there are positives and negatives about both defaults, and as we all know you're never going to please all the people all the time.) Thanks! June "Custom will reconcile people to any atrocity." George Bernard Shaw "Once some potent event evokes before your eyes the invisible thing, there is no way to make yourself blind again." 3. Nancy; You are closer to Salt Lake than we are. It usually takes us more than a week to receive our films. In regards to Neva's comment . . . it costs $3.25 for the first 3 weeks or "short-term" . . . an additional $3.25 for the next 3 weeks and then a final $3.25 if you want it on "indefinate loan". But "you" have to stay on top of your "due dates". Don't expect the Librarians to keep track and call you. I found that out the hard way. I wanted to renew my Colonial Families of Pennsylvannia to "indefinate" status and I missed it by 2 days because I was out of town. Should have taken care of it before I left. Oh well . . . sometimes lessons cost. To Neva: You need to return to the Library . . . things are changing all the time with new updates and additions to their systems. Good Luck in your research. 1. [WVFAYETT] old photo of John Johnson
    2. Lana Self
    3. Hello List, While visiting my aunt recently in WV, I was given some old photographs and tin types. Some of the tin types were in a small album. The first picture is of an older couple and written beside the photo is John Johnson and the other side says Mary Johnson. Another tin type is of Minnie Maynor Cottle, daughter of George Washington Maynor and Sarah Johnson Maynor. I also have a photo of Amos and Ann Stover. These old pictures were in the house that was built by G.W. Maynor and passed down in the family. I am descended from these two families, the John Johnson and G.W. Maynor families. A lot of the pictures are not labeled. I would be glad to send a jpeg of the Johnson photo to anyone who requests a copy, or any other photo I have. If there is anyone on the list related to John and Mary Johnson or G.W. and Sarah Maynor I would love to hear from you. Lana Self

    3. I don't know if you have access to a LDS family library but they can order the microfilm with the census on it and then go there and look at it. I don't know if there are indexes available or not Ancestry.com has the 1910 census but it is not indexed yet and the is a fee to gain access. --- Sandy <Tutu14805@prodigy.net> wrote: > I know y'all are probably tired of my asking about these people but, does > anyone have easy access to the 1900-1910 census for Fayette County? 3. The Snow White virus is still very much around. It was rampant in my area (Tenn) about six months ago and I got as many as ten and twelve messages in a two-day period several times; usually on the weekend. Fortunately, my antivirus program picked up on them and no harm was done. I still get an occasional message. Enough to keep me on my toes and on the lookout. A friend in the Fayetteville, WVA area has been getting a lot, too. I am now very careful to keep my antivirus program updated and do at least a weekly scan of my hard drive. I have been trying to let people know in advance when I plan to send them an attachment, so they will be expecting it. A little extra time but worth it. Carline cagee@ntown.net

    2. Cathy Meder-Dempsey
    3. June, I have received this same e-mail about once a month for the past 9 months or so. Last one this past Monday. I have never opened the attachment as a friend had warned me about this one. Checked my hard disk just in case and didn't find it. My children also use this computer and have been warned to NOT open attachments that they are not expecting to get. But kids don't always do what their parents say. They are also reminded of what happened when one of them brought a disk home from school about three years ago. It contained a virus that wiped out the entire hard disk. I have seen the Snow White e-mail mentioned on other mailing lists and wonder if the addies are being picked off these lists or other query sites. I haven't tried to return it to the sender for fear that I would be bombarded with more. So now I celebrate Snow White's 18th birthday about once a month by deleting the message as soon as it comes in. Thanks for the warning, Cathy > -----Original Message----- > From: June & Marco [mailto:settleciocca@earthlink.net] > Sent: Sunday, July 08, 2001 2:49 AM > To: WVFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [WVFAYETT] Please check your hard disks > > > Would everyone on the list please scan their hard disks for a file called > "dwarf4you.exe"? This is an ancient worm program that replicates itself, tempting users to open it by insinuating to do so will reveal "the true story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". 2. June & Marco
    3. Hi, Sherranlynn: I don't know where Jackson McDonald Ewing and Sarah Adkins were married (I don't find them in the Fayette Co. marriage records), but could this be it: 1860 Census #869. ADKINS, Isom, 30 Farm Labor Virginia 20 Bug 8 Sarah 6 Rebecca 5 Lewvicy (f) 3 In the marriage record of Rebecca, the mother is listed as "Jincy". I take this to be a nickname for Virginia, and these people probably spoke with an accent so thick you could cut it with a knife. <G> Alright, now in the Fayette Co. marriage records I find: McUne, Jakson md. Sarah Atkins January 12, 1874 race w age: n/a, 21 marital status: s,s born: Fayette Co., WV; Fayette Co., WV parents: Ruth Bennett, Isam & Jenero What do you think? Have you found any of these people in the 1870 census? I will check on Isom and Virginia after dinner. Best wishes, June "Custom will reconcile people to any atrocity."
