    3. Hi, Becky: Mary Ann Kious (July 20 1833 - December 18 1903) was the daughter of Nicholas Kious and Frances "Franky" Skaggs. It is very likely that Nicholas, Franky and probably some of their children died in the typhoid epidemic of the late 1840's. In 1850 Mary Ann and her surviving siblings (James, Hiram, Jonathan, and Isabella) are living in the home of their maternal grandparents James Skaggs and Elizabeth ______. Nicholas Kious was the son of Jacob Valetine Kious and his first wife, Mary Hoover. It would seem Nicholas was their only child. Mary died young and Jacob married 2nd Susannah Miller and had numerous children (as you know, always happy to share names if you are interested). Jacob Valentine Kious was the son of Nicholas Kious and Frances Valentine of Wurttemberg, Germany. As an aside here, for what it's worth (perhaps not the time it takes to type it, so keep that in mind). I read a theory that the immigrant Kious ancestor was named Kowes and changed his name to Kious, a completely made-up name that previously never existed. Therefore, all persons of the name Kious descend from Nicholas Kious and Frances Valentine (or from John Kious and Margaret Hidy, who some say are Nicholas' parents). I will say, though, that I've not yet met a Kious researcher who didn't fit somewhere in this family. If you haven't done so, go over to the Kious forum on Genforum. http://genforum.genealogy.com/kious/ Lykens: I don't know. I haven't researched this line, although would be happy to look for specific people in books I have here for anyone interested. And if I don't get off this computer and get outside and sow the grass seed, then iron the laundry, there's going to be a mutiny around here!! <G> Best wishes, June At 07:22 AM 8/24/2001 -0400, you wrote: >June, >Is this Mary Ann Kious mentioned the sister to Jacob Kious, children of >Henry Kious?? >Also, the David Lykens , is he the brother to James Lykens who was married >to Sarah Johnson who she also married James Taylor?? >Thanks! >Becky >----- Original Message ----- >From: June & Marco <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Sent: Thursday, August 23, 2001 8:22 PM >Subject: [WVFAYETT] Huddleston-Lykins > > >> Hi, Linda: >> >> Still looking for those Lykins, eh? <G> >> >> As a matter of fact, there is one, although it is probably old news to >you. >> In the chapter, "The Huddlestons of the Kanawha Valley", it lists that >Jane >> Huddleston married David Likens. I know their childrens names , buit I would like to find out her parents names. I haven't had much luck. The 1900 Clay county census has James Young as a boarder in the home of Susan O'Brien. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Dotty Layton Gobel

    3. Hi, Linda: Still looking for those Lykins, eh? <G> As a matter of fact, there is one, although it is probably old news to you. In the chapter, "The Huddlestons of the Kanawha Valley", it lists that Jane Huddleston married David Likens. Jane, born 1838-39, was a daughter of Nathan Huddleston and his first wife Elizabeth Rowland. I descend from Nathan Huddleston and Elizabeth Rowland via their son Fleming C. Huddleston who married Mary Ann Kious (Kias). Refresh my memory on which line you're looking for. 2. June & Marco
    3. Hi, Carol: I have that Henry Huddleston (1660-1706) married Elizabeth Cooper 1701. They would be the parents of William I. William Huddleston I (1702-1776) married Dorothy Walsh in 1727. They had a son named William II, who died in 1796. He married Sarah Harman in 1781. Obviously, since Mary Elizabeth Huddleston married John Jenkins in 1778, Sarah Harman probably is not her mother. However, given William II's parents' ages, Sarah could very likely be a second wife. This would definitely seem to leave room for William II having several children before Sarah Harman, one of whom is a William III. William II's children with Sarah Harman were Lewis, Amos, Mahlon, and John. HOWEVER, reading the "Huddleston Family Tables" it appears William II never left Bucks Co., PA. His line adopted the spelling "Huddleson" which is still used to the present day. He served in the Bucks Co. militia in 1775 and died in Bucks Co. in 1796. Another possibility: William II had a brother Henry (we'll call him Henry Huddleston II). Henry Huddleston II (1706-1780) married Mary Wilkinson in 1733. Henry II also had a son named William (who I will call h2 which is his designation in the Huddleston Family Tables). William h2 would have been born ca1740 and died in 1817. William h2 moved to Bedford Co., VA ca1770 and from there to the Kanawha Valley ca1785. Unfortunately, the record shows that his daughter Elizabeth married a Job Martin. You know, I have heard of this marriage record of Mary Elizabeth Huddleston to John Jenkins in Bedford Co., VA 1778 but never seen a copy. Does anyone have this who would be so kind as to share what it says? Are you totally confused now? <LOL> BTW, I, too, descend from John Jenkins and Mary Elizabeth Huddleston. And, just in case you missed one of the umpteenth times I've mentioned it, I absolutely throw my hands up in despair every time I try to sort out the John Jenkins/Mary Elizabeth Huddleston/Jane McGeorge mess. 3. Hi, Becky: Sorry for the delay in answering your query. Job Huddleston (1814-1903) married Elizabeth McCoy in 1844. Job was a son of Thomas J. Huddleston (1769-1825) and his second wife Catherine Nichols, whom he married in 1801. Thomas J. Huddleston was a son Daniel Huddleston (1735-1817) and Rachael Martin. I descend from Daniel Huddleston and Rachael Martin by their son John "Paddy" Huddleston. The following information is from "The Huddlestons--My Kin" by Lawrence M. Huddleston. 1. [WVFAYETT] Ingram Family of Loup Creek
    2. Cathy Meder-Dempsey
    3. Hi List (Sharon, Sherranlynn, Sarah, Terry) I unsubscribed to the list the beginning of August before going on vacation. I'm now back, checked the WVFAYETT-L Archives, and found out that I missed out on a discussion concerning the Ingrams of Loup Creek. I also descend from these Ingrams through my great-grandmother Laura Belle Ingram Dempsey, d/o Irvin L. Ingram, s/o Robert Ingram, s/o James Ingram. I would like to make a few comments. Sharon, your email dated Aug 6 is garbled in the archives. I have the following questions concerning children of William Preston Ingram and Manerva Light: 1. "Josephine b. May 5, 1882 Loup Creek, d.Jan. 16,1968, m. _______? J. Tildon Counts." Is her husband's name correct? 2. "Laura Belle b. Mar. 26, 1888, d. May 8, 1969, m. Nathan Lorenza b.Dec. 25, 1881, d. May 9, 1969, m. into Payne family." I have Laura m. Nathan Payne. Could Lorenza be his middle name? 3. "Wyatte b. Nov. 1878, d. Feb. 22, 1966, Remained Single." This child is not listed with the family on the 1880 census. Could the year of birth be incorrect? Sharon, in your email dated Aug 11 you wrote: "Robert Ingram b. 1819, d. Abt. 1902 and Hulda Johnson b. 1818, d. 1855 on Coal River, Fayette County, WV. They were married Sept. 14, 1832." As mentioned in a message from Sherranlynn, Huldah died after 1880 as she is seen on the 1880 census. The following census info listed by Sherranlynn on Aug 12 is from 1880 NOT 1870: 1880 Fayette County West Virginia Census, Ingram, Robert W M 61 Farmer; Huldah W F 63 wife, keeping house; Annie W F 23 dau, at home; Richard W M 18 son, at home. I do not have a date of marriage for Robert Ingram and Huldah Johnson but am sure that Sept. 14, 1832 is incorrect. They would have been about 13 and 14 years old at the time. I believe that Robert was living with his parents at the time of the 1840 census: 1840 U.S. Federal Census Fayette County, (West) Virginia James Ingram 2 males 10-15 (Matthew & John) 1 male 15-20 (Robert) 1 male 60-70 (James) 1 female 5-10 (Ruth) 1 female 10-15 (Cynthia) 1 female 50-60 (Margaret) Missing on the 1840 census are James and Margaret's son James Jr. who died bef. 1835 and their son Joshua who was alone in his own household. I have Vincent Ingram b. ca. 1841 as the oldest child of Robert and Huldah as seen on the 1850 census: 1850 U.S. Federal Census Fayette County, (West) Virginia Enumerated on 27 August 1850 Household # 461 Family # 461 Robert Ingram 31 M Farmer $100 VA Huldah Ingram 32 F VA Vincent Ingram 9 M VA Irvin L. Ingram 4 M VA Wm. P. Ingram 2 M VA For anyone interested, I would be happy to send a copy of what I have on James Ingram and his descendants as an attachment in MS Word format (about 50 pages with notes and sources). Cathy
