    1. RE: [WVFAYETT] "Jinney" Radford
    2. Cathy Meder-Dempsey
    3. June, The family that Mike found "Jinney" living with is John E. Dempsey (b. ca. 1840 Amherst Co., VA, s/o Wilson M. Dempsey and his first wife Evalina Caroline Rhodes) and Fanny Hattie Hickman (b. ca. 1850 Greenbrier Co., (W)VA, d/o John and H. E. Hickman). They were married November 19, 1868 in Fayette County. John's parents were listed as Wilson and Pauline (the step-mother). Evalina is mentioned in her father's will in 1844 and I assume that she died before 1848. Another Radford shows up in this Dempsey line. The brothers Wilson M. and Seaton Y. Dempsey brought their families to Fayette County sometime before the 1860 census. Seaton's son George W. had a son Andrew Seton (also seen as Seton Andrew) who's daughter Hattie married I. E. Radford 24 December 1903. No further information on this individual. Hope this is of some help. 1. [WVFAYETT] A happy ending, or really just a beginning
    2. Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a story with you all. My mom was born in Raleigh County, and grew up in Fayette County until she was 15. She was raised by her step-grandmother, who changed her name, and kept her away from her siblings. My cousin found my website on the internet last summer and we all got together on Labor Day weekend. The story of the reunion was in the Beckley paper yesterday. The link to the story online is below. Those of you who have access to the newspaper, they also included a photogreaph of my mom and her sisters in the print version. The link is long, and I'm not sure if it will be put on two lines when this comes to the list. If the url is sepated, you may have to copy and paste both lines into your browser to make it work! http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=2434864&BRD=2086&PAG=461& dept_id=348406&rfi=8 -- Cherie Atkinson Clark [email protected] http://members.aol.com/chersfmly/ Looking for ATKINSON in Ohio Co WV and Washington Co PA, FIFE in Allegheny and Washington Co PA, KIMMINS (or KIMMONS) in Ohio and Marshall Co WV and Washington Co PA, SKILES in Washington Co PA, TOLBERT in Carroll Co VA and Raleigh and Fayette Co WV, WEBB in Carroll Co VA, McDAID in Washington Co PA and Marshall Co WV, WOLFE in Greene Co and Washington Co PA, FARIS in Ohio Co WV and Delaware Co OH, McCONNELL in Allegheny Co PA, MORROW in Allegheny Co PA, SUPLER in Washington Co and Greene Co PA, and way too many associated families to list! **There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. I know that the Willis family was living in Lincoln or Putam Co. sometime before 1910, would like to find some information on them before coming to Fayette Co. Samuel & his wife Lilly died in Fayette Co.W.V. & were carried back to the Mt. Moriar Church Cemetery, I can't remember if it is in Lincoln or Putam Co. I think the road that this cemetery is on is called Turkey Creek road. There is no head stone for there graves, I would like to see about getting one put there. Can someone help? 1. [WVFAYETT] Coleman
    2. June & Marco
    3. Hello, all: I know there are some Coleman descendants on here. I'm in contact with a researcher on some other lines and he mentioned today being related to Colemans (which I'm not). Here is his lineage: Thomas Estil Coleman was born in 1889. He died in Kankakee, Illinois in 1976. Thomas left Fayette County as a young man. My G-Grandfather Thomas Coleman (1848-1929) was born in Reedsville (near Long Bottom), Meigs County, Ohio. His farm was up Mulberry. His father was Samuel Coleman (1809-1867). Samuel's Father was John Coleman Jr., (1780-1843) from Long Bottom, Meigs County, Ohio. John Jr's. Father was John Coleman of Wood County, (West) Virginia (1760-?). John Coleman was the son of Michael Coleman. Michael was alleged to have been born in Scotland (1740) and came to this country with his parents. Michael came to Ft. Belleville, (West) Virginia from Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Michael was killed by Shawnee Indians while on a meat gathering expedition at Cottageville, Mason County, (West) Virginia in 1793. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please write me privately at [email protected] and I'll put you in touch with this researcher. He would like to hear from others working on his Coleman line. Best wishes, June

    1. [WVFAYETT] New site with some Fayette Co. Families
    2. Cathy Meder-Dempsey
    3. From: RootsWeb Review, Vol. 4, No. 37, 12 Sept. 2001 WEST VIRGINIA. The Kanawha County Family Tree Web Pages were generated from a database containing more than 65,000 individuals and more than 2,500 families -- all with some connection to Kanawha County Virginia/West Virginia. The primary goal is to correlate the information available for Kanawha County during the period 1850 to 1880. The information comes from the census, marriage, birth and death records. Additional information from other sources, time periods and nearby counties has been included. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maudenna/ Found some of my Ingrams who moved from Fayette to Kanawha on this site and was able to fill in a few blanks. I'm sure there are more families from Fayette County in there. Cathy "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." --- Helen Keller

    3. Hi, Cathy: Now I'd really like to find the other list of Nicholas Co. marriages I have. The short one I found (which does not list parents) doesn't even include the marriage of Robert Hughes and Nancy Sims. The 1860 census I have is transcribed. You may wish to try to find a microfilm copy of this, so that you can get all the information from the following household: #731 SIMS, James 47 Farmer Elizabeth 47 Nancy 22 Day Labor Amanda ? Day Labor Charles 16 William A. 13 Minerva 11 B. F. (m) 8 G. W. (m) 6 In the 1870 census, household #219 Falls of Kanawha (in other words, right next door to #220 Robert Hughes and Lizzie Dempsey), there is: Sims, James J. 54 Farmer Elizabeth 55 Benjamin 18 George W. 16 A. Dixon (m) 8 So, if this is the right Sims family, in 1860 where was Robert and 3YO George?? What an interesting mystery! 3. Mike, I think I spoke to you before, I have been collecting pictures such as you have mention of this area, do you mind sending me a copy of the scanned picture. My dad was driving the work bus for the coal miners down in that area at the time of that train wreck, he had to haul all of the dead bodies and the ones that were injured to the hospital. for years he said he would lay his head on the pillow at night and try to go to sleep , but all he could do was see all of those people & the condition of the bodies. I don't think it ever left his mind. I also went up and seen the sign with the names and wondered why there hadn't been something put up by even the UMW , I am really surprised, maybe know one has tried. Sarah ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, September 08, 2001 12:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [WVFAYETT] powellton train explosion 1934 Hello list, Can someone please enlighten me as to why the worst train accident in Fayette County history has not as much as a mention on the website or a roadside marker at least at the mouth of the hollow. My great grandfather was one of the casualties, (and I even have a picture of the train after the mishap) I am sure that anyone who is from the Deepwater area has heard of this. If the proprietors of the list would like I could scan the picture and the list of the men involved and send them to be published on the site. I would really like to extend my deepest gratitude to whomever created the slate marker near the site.
