    1. [WVFAYETT] Kenneth Hamilton-& Gauley Bridge
    2. Lil Ham
    3. I know y'all are tired of me asking about Kenneth but I might have a new clue.. just not sure. I did find out that my Kenneth Hamilton lived in Tulsa OK in 1929 and was married to a Mattie Hughes at the time. They had at least 2 sons. I spoke to the widow of one of them. Kenneth left his wife and sons and came to the Montgomery area of WV where he met Ruth Hazel Caldwell Gipson (Gibson) At this point I can't verify that they married but they had many children. I've gotten another family name that might be linked to the Hamilton's TOLLIVER. Not sure how it connects-possibly married into TOLLIVER's and is somehow related that Kenneth Hamilton. Where is Gauley Bridge in relation to Montgomery? Sandy H

    3. Hello, all: I was going through photos today and came across one (well, OK, more than one <G>) that I'd forgotten I have. This photo was taken using a macro lens on a 35mm camera and is of a photo that was in the possession of Lawrence M. Huddleston, author of "The Huddlestons, My Kin". Here is the caption that accompanied the photo (Frances' maiden name was Saye): Home of Albert L. and Frances (Fanny) Huddleston. Married February 10, 1853 Location: Falls Branch, Fayette County, Kanawha Falls, West Virginia Picture taken around 1896 or 1897 Seated front row, left to right: Frances, Albert Sr., Angie and Press Standing back row, left to right: Joseph, Albert Jr., (Abb) and Sarah (Sal) Press and Angie are the children of Albert and Sarah Huddleston If you would like a copy of this photo, drop me an e-mail and I will be happy to scan it and forward it along. Best wishes, June

William Martin b: 1863 was his son by his first wife, Elizabeth Grose. The rest of the children were from his second wife, Mary Jane Walker whom he married 21 Nov 1866 Nicholas Co., WV. I have one correction for George J Martin b. 1874. His name was George Isaac Martin so someone has copied the "I" as a "J" somewhere along the line. 2. June & Marco
    3. Hello, all: I received a spam from Ancestry.com, try to sell their 1920 census index. They make this claim about the census images: "Imagine the thrill of reading first-hand personal information about your ancestors, often in their own handwriting!" I always thought only the census taker wrote the information on the pages, so unless your ancestor was the census taker, you are not looking at your ancestor's handwriting. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks! June

Do you have a transcript of this land deed or a copy of the original? I have seen reference to this transaction in the "History of Fayette County West Virginia 1993" pg. 89 but do not have details other than that it was in 1841. 3. Hi to Fayette County; I'm back now, but actually I have been back since the 1st of Nov. I loved Fayette County, especially Lansing, WVA and Fayette Station. I am researching the TOWNSEND line and came across so much history of my family, that I am still in "awe" when I look back at my trip. The first day that I went to Lansing, I drove past the road to the cemetery 3 times before I found it. When I went up that little road and crested into the cemetery, I only found 1 headstone of my family. Morgan TOWNSEND and 3 foot stones. The names of the other families there did not mean anything to me. There were Masons, Rhodes, Colemans, a few Wood headstones, Shuff's, Fox's . . .etc. The next day I spent at the Fayetteville County Court House and the Genealogical room at the Library. The burial index for the Lansing Cemetery states that there are 25 unmarked graves. Well, I now know half of who they are. The following day, I drove to Charleston through Hico, Ansted, Mountain Cove, Victor . . ! . and met a 3rd cousin on my TOWNSEND line, that I never knew. I went to the State Archives and learned a great deal about my Great Grand Uncle Thomas C. TOWNSEND. As I drove back to Eastern TN where I was staying, I decided to go back the way that I came. I stopped in Lansing and went up to the Cemetery. I now know that just about everyone in the Lansing Cemetery . . . are "my" family. I know that in the very beginning when John TOWNSEND bought the land from Elijah Wood, that the Cemetery was orginally the TOWNSEND Cemetery. Half of those "unmarked" graves are of my TOWNSEND family. I wish that I had had more time to meet Celeste Arritt instead of just talking to her over the phone. I am equally sorry that I was not able to meet Becky Shuff . . . yes . . . we are cousins. I look forward to the day that I can return to Fayette County. So many good memories. But . . . I am still looking for family members of John TOWNSEND b. 1803 in Greenbriar, VA. Lynn WORRELL Hudson great granddaughter of Annie TOWNSEND Worrell, who was the daughter of Benjamin and Julia Rule TOWNSEND, who was the son of John and Eliza Darnell TOWNSEND.

    3. Hello, Cousin David (and all): Eulalia was a very popular name in the U.S. during the early part of the 20th century. I don't know what brought on its popularity or its decline. At first I thought the girl Vieve might have been a nickname for "Genevieve", but looking at the spelling in the 1910 census, Vievia, I think it may have been pronounced "Vi-ee-va", which was a name I remember some older women and one of my classmates had when I was growing up "down on the creek" (Loup Creek). 3. Hi Sherranlynn. James S. Blake and his wife Laura M.(Kincaid) Blake show up in the Fayette County 1910 Census on sheet 19B. They listed as married 9 years (June 19,1901 - my record), having 1 child (living) listed as Vievia E. age 6. Also listed is Roy P.(?) age 10 years (adopted) and Mabelle age 8 (adopted). James/Laura's occupations are given as Machinist/School Teacher. Just guessing, I would say Gallespie and Eulalis were adopted between 1910 and 1920. I would appreciate any further clarification on this family since Laura was my second cousin, twice removed. TJ

    3. Kay, I haven't been to the cemetery but have the following directions: Chestnutburg Rd Cem, Ames Hgts Rd. 1.75 mi. off Rt. 19 I figure Rt. 19 is the road off of the New River Gorge Bridge so you'll just have to find Ames Heights Road. Hope this helps. Are you researching the Dempseys? Two of the stones (Viola Dempsey and Pearl Dempsey) that you may have seen on Jim Skaggs site list Wm. A. and Laura as parents. The stones must have been placed there by someone from the family. The father should be William H. (Henderson) Dempsey and Laura is Laura Belle Ingram. They were my great-grandparents. William Henderson was the son of William A. Dempsey also found there.
