    3. DAVID M. HEATH (b. 17 Oct1817-1900) married 4 Oct 1838 1. Letha/Zetta McCOMAS (1818-1847). m. 2. ‘Eliza’ Jane KERR 7 Oct 1847. He was born in Cabell Co. VA. He met and married Letha/Zetta McComas in Cabell Co. VA when both families lived there. She was a daughter of Moses McComas and Lucy (Napier) McComas. Five of the children of Israel Heath married five of the children of Moses McComas during their time in Cabell Co. VA. He was born 3 May 1818. He and Letha moved along with the other Heath and McComas family members to M) 1839-1840. He appears in the 1840 census in Platte Co MO with a ‘wife and one son’. His 1st wife Letha died at age 29 in 1847. He married again on 7 Oct 1847 Eliza Jane Kerr (1828-1898). They were married in Platte Co. MO. In 1851 at age 34 he recorded the purchase of 159 acres in Township 53, Range 34, Sect 23 in Platte Co. MO. through the ‘500,000 Acre Grant’. This was adjacent to land owned by his brother Stephen Preston Heath. At some point he moved his family to Benton Township, Daviess Co. MO. He was a Methodist minister in Benton Township and also listed himself as a farmer on the 1860 census for Daviess Co. MO. The 1874 tax list for Daviess Co has him owning 120 acres in Township 61, Range 23, Sections 3 & 4 and an additional 36 acres in Township 62, Range 29, sct. 34. Son William owned adjacent property of 60 acres in Township 62, Range 29, Sections 33 & 34. The Methodist Church at Civil Bend was organized largely through the effort of Rev. David M. Heath in 1865. Still standing is the Heath Chapel (United Methodist) and Heath Cemetery in Benton Township, Daviess Co. MO. Rev. David M. Heath was a Union soldier in the Civil War, in the same unit as his two eldest sons: Elisha and James K. All were in Company F, 11th Regiment, Missouri Cavalry. David was a 2nd Lt and Elisha was a Sergeant, James K. a 2nd Lt. A David M Heath is also listed as a Union soldier, Private in the Missouri State Militia, company G ‘discharged for disability.’ This could be the same David M Heath for it was not unusual for one enlistment to be short and there to be a second one. By his first marriage (to Letha/Zetta McComas) he was the father of the following children: Elisha B. HEATH, (b. 29 Aug 1839) Born in Cabell Co. VA m. ca 1861 Mary Elizabeth ___(b. 1839). She was born in MO. They lived in Butler Twp.,Harrison Co. MO. in 1870,1880 and 1900. Elisha served the Union during the civil War. The 1900 census indicates that Mary had 11 children, only eight living in 1900. At that time, their grandson Harvey D. HEATH (b. 1898) was living with them. Harvey was probably a son of John D. Heath who was living in Elisha’s household as a widower. The (known) children of Elisha B. and Mary Elizabeth were: Emily V. HEATH (b.ca. 1861) Sarah A. HEATH (b.ca.1863) Martha ‘Mattie’ L. HEATH (b.ca.1867) Alla HEATH (b.ca.1869) Maggie G. HEATH (b.ca. 1870) David B. HEATH (b.1873) John D. HEATH (b. 1876) Widowed by 1900. Mary M. MO. in 1870, 1880, 1900. 1900 census indicates she had 8 children, 7 living. James served in the Union Army during the Civil War. William was a farmer and a minister. William and Emily died in Daviess Co. MO and are both buried in the Heath Cemetery in Benton Twp. The 1900 census indicated they had 12 children, only 9 living in 1900. The (known) children of William R and Emily are: Eliza J. HEATH (b. ca. 1866) Israel HEATH (b.1867-1921) m. HEATH (1848-1906) m. Nancy ‘Nanna’ (Elam)ATKINSON (1849-1916) daughter of William C. Atkinson one of 1st settlers of Daviess Co. MO (1849-1916).She was a widow and had a son Ellis Elam b. ca. 1869 by previous marriage. No issue this marriage. Sarah HEATH (b. ca 1850) m. George MORRIS, Daviess County (b. ca. 1846) Both born in MO. and living in Benton Twp, Daviess Co. MO. in 1870. Not found in 1880 census and the first three of their children are found in 1880 living with their paternal grandparents, Frederick and Mahala Morris. Homer was living with his maternal grandparents, David and Eliza J. Heath. The children of Sarah and George Morris: John MORRIS b.ca 1868 Meredith ‘Eddy’ MORRIS b.1870 (male) Mahala J. Child of Rosa and Homer Read: David Frank READ b. 1897 Rev David M Heath also raised an orphaned boy named Patrick Henry McMILLEN until the boy reached age 21. Patrick H. McMillen married March 20, 1895 to Mannie Williamson.
