    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Chapman, Ball, Morris, Erwin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GCC.2ACE/203.205.526 Message Board Post: Can you provide more information on the account of Nancy Chapman's death, particularly what led you to believe that she is the daughter of John Chapman and Jane Donoho? I have been searching for a long time to verify her maiden name and your message is the first I've seen that might lead to proof of her identity. I am a descendant of John and Jane Chapman through their son, Joseph, who married Lucy Morris. I also am a descendant of John Ball and Nancy ?, through their son, Zacheriah Ball, who married Mary Erwin. So, as you can see, I have a two-fold interest in proving the identity of Nancy who married John Ball. Thanks for your help.

    3. Over the years, I have discussed Nancy's ancestry with other BALL and CHAPMAN researchers. Most are convinced that she was descended from John & Jane DONOHO CHAPMAN, but none to date have provided me with anything but conjecture. I should mention that I lean toward agreeing with them, but that isn't enough for me to place her in their family. I believe that we do know two things. One she was a CHAPMAN. I believe that I saw this myself at KYOWVA in the "Lost Death Records" that Barbara BELL found. You can check with them on that. And two, she came from Culpeper Co., VA. I think that this came from the same place. If you don't find her birthplace there, rattle my cage and I will look it up for you. Tom has a good point with his reference to their naming a son Cadawalader. However, there were a number other people in the area named Cadawalader. But I am not aware of any other CHAPMANS though. I don't see your name in any of these posts. It would help me to know who I am talking to because I keep track of who is working on what family. 3. Oops, just shook some cobwebs loose. John BALL md. Nancy CHAPMAN 1792 in Culpeper Co., Va. It's still a coin toss as to what family that she came from. Had they gotten md. in Cabell County, I would have been more inclined to believe that she was from John & Jane's family. Had they gotten md. in Cabell County, I would have been more inclined to believe that she was from John & Jane's family.>> Actually, doesn't it make more sense that she remained in Culpeper until she was married? Her parents did not move west. Her marriage is not too long after John is presumed dead, and Jane either stayed put or did not move west until much later. Also, another clue about Nancy is that she is living with her son Isaac in Cabell in 1850, adjacent to her alleged sister Mary Chapman Jordan. Tom
