Mr. Prichard: I agree with you that Barry Huffstutler does not get enough credit. I made an inquiry of him several months ago about some photos that I had taken in the Rece Cemetery and asked if he had any other photos. Not only did he answer a quick "YES", he spent some time "THAT NIGHT" creating links on his site that allowed me to access the photos. He gave me his phone number and asked that I follow up with him so that he could make sure that I received all the information that I needed. I don't get that kind of quick response from people who are related to me ! Anyone who has spent even a small amount of time reading a cemetery knows that it's a long and tenuous task. I applaud Mr. Huffstutler for all the work that he does and hope that he realizes all the valuable information that he has provided to people like me who live a fair distance from Cabell County. So From Someone Who Has Been On The Receiving End Of His Generosity; THANKS BARRY !!! Joel Reece I am researching the Rece / Reece Family from West Virginia. My line starts with Allen Rece from the Revolutionary War. ----- Original Message ----- From: "EDWARD PRICHARD" <EdPrichard@msn.com> To: "WVCABELL-L" <WVCABELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 26, 2008 11:15 AM Subject: [WVCABELL] Another One Bit The Dust! > Barry Huffstutler has finished reading the Enon Cem. at Salt Rock. There are over 1500 burials there so it will take awhile to rename the the monument pictures and those with pictures on their monuments. After renaming, he will transcribe the information to an Excel database for posting on Cabell County Doors to the Past. > There are well over 250 family and commercial cemeteries so far listed on his site! His website and information is FREE to the public. He has provided this "treasure" at great expense to himself and his family. "Gas ain't cheap", and neither is TIME! He has never received any funding from any community organization. HE HAS NEVER ASKED! His only remuneration is the occasional e-mail thanking him fo r some "jewel" that he has posted to Doors to the Past which helped someone discover something new about a relative. > His plan is to map and preserve for all time the final resting places of our Cabell County ancestors! Have you ever tried to attempt such a venture? Wanna help? Volunteer some information, Send him the location of a cemetery not known or listed here in Cabell County, come pull weeds and grass from around the monuments so that they may preserved digitally and saved for all time, or simply send him an e-mail of encouragement at barryh5356@hughes.net<mailto:barryh5356@hughes.net>. > > Exerpts from the guestbook on his front page: > > Mr. Huffstutler, > "Thanks for your hard work on this site. The section on cemeteries is great. The section on the military made a tear come to my eye, when I read names I hadn't thought of in years. > KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK " > > > > "Mr. Huffstutler I am glad to see someone posting records of the wonderful place I use to call home. I enjoy reading about West Virginia history especially that of which was in the town I grew up in. It is also good to talk to a former teacher from Milto High part of which made me what I am today. I am currently an aerospace engineer residing in Los Angeles California. Good luck in all you do and thanks again." > > > "THIS IS A VERY WONDERFUL WORK IN PROGRESS. A LOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE FOLKS AND TOWN AND EVERYTHING. ONE OF THE BEST SITES I HAVE BEEN TO IN A LONG WHILE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK AS IT IS NOW AND FOR YOUR FUTURE ADDITIONS. THIS IS WONDERFUL.
