She was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, Charleston. Thelma was the first girl born in the old Clifton Forge (Virginia) Hospital. Additionally, she was a member of the St. Gregory Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Lambda Chi Omega sorority and the Ridge Runner Travel Group. She was a graduate of St. Joe's High School, Huntington. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Joseph. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann of Charleston; sons, Robert Jr. and wife, Cathy, of South Charleston, John of Huntington and David and Thomas, both of Charleston; brother-in-law, Charles Edward and wife, Frances, of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, Robert III and wife, Lisa, Stephen, Stephanie, Mary Beth, Joseph and Cecil; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Molly and Asia. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home Chapel, Charleston, with Father Leon Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where there will be a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m., conducted by Monsignor P. Edward Sadie.
