Hi all, Does anyone know anything about a small cemetery located on the Tom's Creek side of Hash Ridge? I know Carrie Eldridge has an unlocated cemetery for Hash Ridge in her cemetery books. I found out where the cemetery is supposed to be. When you start up Hash Ridge Road off Tom's Creek, you will pass a small substation about halfway up the hill. If you pull off at the substation and walk directly behind it up the hill, the cemetery is supposed to be on top of the little hill there. The property belonged to Joseph Jackson Hash (1874-1947) for many years, and was sold off in the early 1970's by a daughter. I don't know who owned it before him. The few people I have talked to that know about it have said it was there when Joe Hash bought the place (ca1900). It had probably six graves & only had fieldstones for markers. Does anyone know who might have been buried there? George S. The Latter Day Saints Family History Center has reopened in Cabell County after being closed for renovations. It is located in the Pea Ridge Area. The hours are Tuesday 10-2 and 5-8 Thursday 5-8 and Saturday 10-2 I had told several people that I would help them with something or other at the library. I am volunteering in March from 10-2 tomorrow (Saturday March 15th) and from 10-2 on March 29th. The phone number for the Center that is given on the LDS site is 304-736-0250 Remember that all workers in the library are volunteers and as such, if weather is bad or you are driving from a distance, you may want to call ahead to make sure someone is there. Often the door is locked to the library. There is a new doorbell installed if you are there and the door is locked. Please ring for someone to let you in. Marsha Moses
In case anyone is interested , the LDS has put on a new section to see OHIO Death Records for the years 1908 through 1953 ..... {and also for Utah, Texas & Georgia and a few other places} if you are interested go to : http://search.labs.familysearch.org and register to use this site...it is free.
Has anyone researched this family.? They married in Putnam County around 1887.? By 1910, they were in Mason County and in 1930 - I believe she was in Cabell County in 1930.? Charles' death certificate is in Cabell County - 27 April 1940.? She died in Cabell County - 6?Oct. 1941.??Would like to talk with others researching this family. Thanks Lisa
The Woodmere Cemetery listings on the Cabell Genweb site have been a big help to me. I have been watching for updates to the cemetery, but noticed the Cabell Genweb site has been idle for almost two months. Does anyone know when it might be updated again. I hope nothing is wrong. Sheila, Yes, Susan married William GLOVER.? I have backtracked her DEVORE children (William Alfred & Warren Harrison) and their respective death certificates as father:? Martin DEVORE and mother: SUSAN SHOEMAKER.? Thru their obits located in Cabell County, I find two half-brothers, Tom GLOVER and Albert GLOVER and half-sister, CLARA GLOVER HOWE.? All these GLOVERS are in the Portsmouth area except for Albert of Charleston.? I located William Morton GLOVER in census records with children mentioned above that are GLOVERs in Greenup Co., KY.? From there I found death records for Susan & William M.? Susan's death on 4-6-1923 and birth on 3-30-1843 fits with her SHOEMAKER info in census records with Greenberry & Lucy CHAPMAN in 1850.? Also, her mother's name is listed as Lucy SHUMACK.? I believe this Lucy was Lucy MARTIN.? I have a William SHOEMAKER marrying a Lucy MARTIN in Prince Edward Co. in 1829.? Yes, this would make her a little young at 13, but we are talking about the early 1800's, so it is plausible.? Then again, maybe it isn't her, but I have to believe that there would be a connection to her.? Their brother, Jonathan moved away after 1850 to Ohio.? Why would he have left them with an unrelated family??? As far as Nancy, I am completely in the dark.? I would never have traced Susan without her married name on that census record...? Okay, still looking...? Hope this helps your research and thanks so much for helping mine.? I will look into your clues and see what else I can dig up.? Kinda difficult from Corpus Christi, TX.? Isn't the internet great???? Thanks to everyone for your input.? Please throw out anything else to me.? maybe it will begin to take shape... I know of Wm. and Teresa Ann [White] Chapman-- only that their daughter Sarah Elizabeth b 22April 1873 d 25 April 1957 as she married my Grandfather Henry Harrison Johnson 8 Aug 1930 in Cabell Co. WV. I didn't search any further back as it was not my direct line. I was around them but remember no talk of her parents. Sorry I am no help. _____________________________________________________________ Click to save on long term care insurance. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2121/fc/Ioyw6i3mJP4ealPgctvnR4t579ELh7VL8xbcdELY1MuVMZclz2Qrnc/
George, would you post on this board what you found in the Lambert papers about Pherbia Estep Barbour. Her husband, John Wesley Barbour, describes where she was buried. Maybe someone reading this board will have some information. Thanks Wanda

Why, yes, you are correct.? I thank you for your input.? Well, I guess it's back to square one! Okay, my SHOEMAKER children: Susan married a DEVORE, but later married William GLOVER.? She died in 1923 in Kentucky. Death certificate listed?her mother as Lucy SHUMACK.? (obvious incorrect spelling.)? I really believe that Greenberry's wife, Lucy, is this mother. William H.? ????? Nancy J. married Henry GLOVER.? I have his second marriage in 1896, so she might have died between 1894 - 1896.? Cannot locate death information.? (Last child for her died in 1984 at 3 mos.) Any help is appreciated.? (Trying to back track to locate their father's information.) Thanks Karen. I have their death certs. but had never found the obits! Guess I need to call back to the library and see how much they would charge me for a copy of their master book of obits. Don't know if you have ever seen it or not but it is a great resource when you are pounding your head against a brick wall. I can't wait for your e-mail! It will be really great to see something that makes these connections!
