    3. Randolph County Coords : N 38.9356612 W 79.8817369. Just outside of Elkins. I believe, based on the testimony that I have received and excerpts form bookis this is where they were massacred. Got a hit today on Rootsweb- Buffington (unconfirmed though) that Jonathan Buffington's 1st wife was named Mary SMITH. No mention of children and the source is Ancestry.com, but am trying to validate that. SMITH will be hard; really popular name. -----Original Message----- From: wvcabell-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wvcabell-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of LLHANEY@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2008 5:10 PM To: wvcabell@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WVCABELL] Leading Creek locations Leading Creek is Lewis Co., WV at the Little Kanawha River. 3. From all of my research these are the locations that I have tracked down for Jonathon Buffington events. I know it is not in Cabell county, but he was born there moved to settle. If you can't open this in Google Earth, Beverly is located approximately half way between the valley from Elkins WV, south on Highway 250 I believe. I was near there just last weekend, but it is a 4 hour drive for me and gas aint cheap. LOL I do appreciate your help and I will check out that other site. Take your time and enjoy your weekend and have some fun discovering new history. :) Ill contact ya next week... I do some research on an Indian massacre/capture event in the area around Greenbrier County now WV that happened in 1763....as a result I have collected some data about Indian events in general over the years. I would be happy to dig around in my "stuff" to see if I have anything on this event. However, I am swamped with family committments and a very interesting weekend coming up in which I have an internet buddy coming in to do a bit of Wooten research. There are three of us who descend from Silas P. and Phebe Wooten of Eastern KY (Silas was in the Revolution) are going to pool resources for the weekend and see if we can come up with any new stuff.... So ask me again at the end of next week to look at my files and piles to see if I can find anything. By the way there is a rootsweb mail list that you might query to see if there is information there. It is named Indian Captives. 3. Thank you very much, Mr. Moyer. This new resource will be a happy addition to my genealogy records. -Mary Cervantes Researching: Christy, Bush, Hughes, Eads, Doss and related families especially in OH, KY, WV and PA -----Original Message----- From: wvcabell-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wvcabell-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bob Moyer Sent: Saturday, October 04, 2008 1:48 PM To: WVCABELL@rootsweb.com Subject: [WVCABELL] Upper Ohio River and Town Maps (1877) My great-great grandfather was "Judge" Martin Heckard (1809-1877), a lawyer in Pomeroy and many of his clients were on both sides of the river from Cincinnati to Wheeling. He also was one of the early teachers at Meigs Academy in Chester. He grew up in Columbiana and Jefferson Counties and came down to Meigs County about 1832. A few years ago I compiled property owner river maps for the year 1877 following his travels up and down the Ohio River and thought now might be a good time to make them available for everyone at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~moyer/Ohio-River-Maps/inde x.htm Please feel free to download them - they are large files - but excellent quality. They are in PDF format so you can print any section or part that you need - just save them to your computer. There's also a link on the page to another source where I found some Revolutionary War Pension Applications (original documents) for SE Ohio and West Virginia and I added an example. I stumbled on these because they were prepared by Mr. Heckard when he was a lawyer. Too bad the applicant were not our family . . . . the last name was Frasher. I hope you find the maps as useful as I have. Please feel free to pass this information along to any other mailing lists or researchers. My plans are to eventually finish the set which runs from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh as time permits. Good luck with your research.
