My Uncle's name is on the inside of the top left pillar. All of the 8 garden pillars are just the names of the MIAs from the Pacific Theater in WWII. My Uncle - Jesse Herbert Chaffin was a bombadier on a B-29 out of Guam and was missing April 15 1945. He'd only been over there 1 month and they had gone out the day before on the very first bombing mission of the 60th Bomb Squad and shouldn't have gone out again the night of the 14th/15th, but for some reason they were asked to go again instead of another crew. I never met my Uncle as I wasn't born until 1949, but I think about him alot and feel like I know him because of my mother. Here is what I have on James Brown family. I had heard that his wife's was illegitimate and John Porter was her father; however, when I found that she was married to a John Porter I felt the other researcher had erroneously listed her first husband as her father. My James Brown was the son of Isham/Isom Brown and Christenia Hounshell Brown and was born in Smyth County VA. I didn't discover that James was part of our family until last week as the remainder of the family settled in Greenup/Boyd County KY in 1850s. They lived on Chadwick Creek in Catlettsburg KY. Thanks to the person who said that Visa's name was Levisa. I was sure that was it but couldn't find it in records. James Brown's sister was Levisa who married John L. Wilcox and they resided in Catlettsburg, KY. Can't find James or his wife after 1900 census. Could anyone tell me if there might be obits that go back to the early 1900s where I might find their deaths? I live in MI so unable to visit local libraries etc to look so need local names that I might contact. Thanks for all your replies to my inquiries. HELLO to both of you! My name is Lynda Logan and I'm interested in anything that says BLANKENSHIP!!! I will be more than happy to share what I know about James (I show his name as JOHN) Porter and Amacetta Blankenship. I know nothing about John Porter's parents or siblings, but they had 5 children (that I know of) 1. John Porter 2. Samuel Porter 3. Wayne Porter 4. Frances Adaline Porter 5. William W. Porter Amacetta Blankenship was the d/o Levi John Blankenship & Permilia (Blankenship) Blankenship. - Levi John was the s/o Liggon Blankenship & Frances Dillon. (can give you a list of their children if you want.) Liggon was the s/o Peter Blankenship, Sr & his 1st wife Ann Belcher. - Levi John's wife - Permilia was the oldest child & d/o Jesse Blankenship & Margaret Stafford. Jesse was the s/o Peter Blankenship, Jr and his wife Jemimah 'Jennie' Perdue. Peter, Jr was the son of Peter Blankenship Sr & his 1st wife Ann Belcher and was a brother of Liggon's. So that takes care of the 2 Blankenship lines that actually go back to the same line. Levi John & Permilia Blankenship had the following children: 1. Samuel L. Blankenship 2. Amacetta Blankenship 3. Francis Marion Blankenship 4. Matilda Jane Blankenship 5. Mary Frances Blankenship 6. Jesse Blankenship 7. William Henry Blankenship James W. Brown was born March 1829. Sarah Josephine Brown was born 1869. vii. 3. Levisa Belle Brown (alias "Visa Bell Brown") was born November 7, 1871 in , Wayne, WV and died September 7, 1939 in , Wayne, WV. I see you have 1 more child than I do because of his dates, he would not have shown up in any of the census records. Thanks and feel free to contact me if you would like more on the Blankenships. (my link is through my maternal grandmother - Ruby Marie Blankenship d/o John W. Blankenship & Laura Huff. John W. was the s/o Frances Marion 'Doc' Blankenship & Margaret Crockett. My Francis Marion was the s/o John Blankenship & Sarah Stephenson. And this John was the s/o Jesse Blankenship & Margaret Stafford and was the younger brother of Permilia (who married Levi John) and was Amacetta's mother. Blankenship Jr & 'Mannie' erry - February 10, 1912 in Martha, Cabell, WV. They were listed as 18 for him/20 for her and her birth was Cabell Co. They don't fit in to any of my families that I know of, but I've added them to my database and if I find anything else I'll let you know. Since John W. Jr was born in Wayne Co. I'm sure he fits in somewhere...just don't know where. My g-grandfather was also John W. Blankenship but he married Laura Huff. Do you have any other dates or names to add to your John W. He married Amacetta Blankenship December 18, 1859 . She was born March 1829. Children of James W. Brown and Amacetta Blankenship: i. Laban L. Brown was born 1861. ii. Louisa Jane Brown was born 1863. iii. Kitkarie 'Kitty' L. Brown was born 1864. iv. Permilia Brown was born April 30, 1865 in Beech Fork, Wayne, WV. v. Amacetta Brown was born 1867. vi. So Amacetta & my gg-grandfather Francis Marion 'Doc' Blankenship were 1st cousins. You have to cut and paste! I believe we all really appreciate the tremendous efforts of Barry in personally and physically researching all the cemeteries and then spending the time to put that data online.? For those of us who are out of town, his website? has been a great resource. When Barry put the Bailey cemetery online,?it brought tears to my eyes?and I thanked him for providing the picture since I could now visit there any time I wished.? The view in the photo transported me back to those hills where my sweet?mother, dear grandmother?and?ancestors rest. Thank you again, Barry.
