My line continues through Joseph E. Chapman, b. circa 1862 and Annie Ellsworth, b. circa 1835. Joseph E. and Annie had a daughter named Lucy Luella Chapman, b. 05 Feb 1861 who married Shelton Leake Wayland on 19 Feb 1879 in Mason County, WV. Shelton Leake Wayland was born in Mar 1855. I was wondering how your line continues, thinking we may be cousins. Do you have any info on this line? I would love to share info and look forward to hearing from you.

    3. I am looking for information on James Cartmill born about 1740, oldest son of Henry Cartmill 1. Henry Cartmill (born about 1716), who came from Chester County, PA to Augusta County, Va. about 1758 and then to Purgatory Mountain area in Botetourt Cty., Va. about 1768. James married Margret (?) about 1760. James was in Botetourt Cty. at least through 1777. He was on a Botetourt Cty. 1777 Personal Tax List. However, James was not in Botetourt Cty. for the 1783 and the 1785 head count. 1786 James Cartmill was granted 400 acres on the Bluestone River in Montgomery County. He had sons, Henry Cartmill, John Cartmill, and Thomas Cartmill. They all may have moved to Cabell County. His sons Henry and Thomas were there from Tazewell Cty. Va. His son Henry married Mary Wallace and his son, Thomas Cartmill married Nancy Compton, who are my line of Cartmill/Cartmells. Cannot find a marriage record on James being married to Margret and their children. Cannot find death record. I think he may have died in Cabell Cty. If anyone can help, I certainly would appreciate it and would be glad to exchange information. Thanks a bunch for any clues. Doris Cartmell Black
