I found a Lee Grant with wife, Josephine, and son, Carlton, in Huntington on the 1910 Census and on the 1920 Census there are these additional children: Harry, Eloise, Irene, Donald and Elizabeth. They are still in Huntington on the 1930 Census and living with them are Eugene, Donald, Eloise, Irene, Pauline, Henry and Betty and granddaughter, Mary J. Will send you the full particulars from each of the Census years if you like. Just let me know. Regards, Nancy Edwards [email protected]

Nov 30, 1890, is the s/o James C. and Alice Lewis Burns. I base my information on Delayed Birth Certificate #53465, Lincoln County, WV. I don't know when Bradford died, but I expect he may have lived long enough to apply for social security and needed to prove his birth date since all the original Lincoln Co. records were burned. With the help of family and friends, many people fudged their birth dates to make themselves seem older in order to qualify for benefits sooner so Bradford may have been born later than 1890. Also, by the time delayed birth certificates were issued, many relatives couldn't remember the exact year a baby was born.

Burns could be the father also. But his death cert. and registry lists JC. In the census records James is listed JC(maybe they were confused). I don't know how accurate Hallie was. We were told he hung himself and made Mandy and the kids watch. Do you have a Stanley connection to the Burns? My Mother said her mother Minnie Burns Lanham was related to the Hutchinsons, Black's, Adkins that is what I can remember w/o looking thru notes. I also found a book on Lincoln county births (Library) that the birth of Bradford Burns 30 Nov. 1890 to James C Burns and Alice Lewis (b. OH), I guess referring to the father, not sure. - The Bradford B in my family was born Nov 1896 . I am going to get his exact date the next visit to the courthouse ( I hope), if his was the 30th also. If so that would be too much of a coincidence to ignore. James C Burns did not have an obit. I wonder if David Burns Sr. & children's obit list a JC or James. I haven't found their ! marriage record either, it isn't listed in the Lawrence county genweb. I hope to find more information on the Burns family. My Minnie Alice Burns was 4' 10" and 90lbs with black straight hair ( I don't know if she looked like the Burns or the Stanleys') Do you have a connection to the Burns family? Tiffany

When the Upper Vandalia Historical Society published a survey of all the Putnam Co. cemeteries in 1990, this one was in bad shape. An old timer living near the cemetery told the researchers that many Burnses were buried there, but the only burial he could verify was that of Taylor Burns (son of David P. Burns, Sr.) and he wasn't sure of Taylor's death date. I believe the James C. Burns you are researching also is a son of David Patton Burns, Sr. and Ebba (Ebbie) Bugg. There are several strong ties between James C. and other members of the David P. Burns, Sr. family. For example, Peter Burns, shown on the 1880 Lincoln Co. census as a neighbor of James C. Burns, is another son of David P. Burns, Sr. Peter Burns' wife, Julia Ann Hollandsworth, is the sister of Sophia Hollandsworth who married David P. Burns, Jr., yet another son of David P. Burns, Sr.

Let me correct that now. I have James C. Burns, b. 4 Nov 1854, son of David Patton Burns, Sr. and Ebba (Ebbie) Bugg. Earlier I had listed James as the s/o David Burns, Jr. when, in fact, James and David, Jr. are brothers.

I haven't been able to find a JC or James with a son JC or James born in 1854 yet. I thought David Burns may be his father due to the 1870 LIncoln Census listing a James C age 16 son to and living with David P. 56 yrs old and Ebbie 57 yrs old with a sister Jane 22 yrs old also. Now next door to them is a David Burns 20 yrs old with his wife Sophia 26 yrs ( looks like 26). Also the marriage to Alice A Lewis and the move to Cabell County around the same time as the other family is what confused me. I noticed James C. the son of David and Ebba has a birth date 4 Nov. 1854 on some ged files but they do not list the resource source nor any children or death info. I am trying to locate all of my James C Burns and Alice A Lewis children and list them, in hopes someone will recognize them. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks, Tiffany

I'm looking for info on Charles Preston Ayers, who lived in Huntington WV during the 30s and 40s. He adopted my grandfather and had my father and my father's sister live with him during the hardest part of the depression. He lived in a brick mansion at 1220 12th Street. Now, I believe the house has been turned into apartments. Charles Ayers was a builder. Any info would be appreciated.
