    3. Marshall University has her columns listed on their website. Im not sure if theres an index or not. The articles are not on there but they might be able to do research especially if you know which one you want. Go to Special Collections and look under manuscript collection. debbie ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 11, 2006 12:03 PM Subject: Re: [WVCABELL] old newspaper >I also have a question about old newspapers.........but I can't go to the > library in Huntington........ > > About 1977, a Doris C. 1. RE: [WVCABELL] Early Cabell Holton Family
    2. Tom Griesan
    3. Hi Pat, I can't help with the Holton family, but I do know that across the Ohio River in Gallia County, Ohio, there was a newspaper that was active then. Perhaps there might be a newspaper article about the murder. In my experience with the old newspapers, there was frequently news about neighboring counties, and Cabell County would have been considered a neighboring county. That little old river didn't cause anyone to think of Cabell County as far away. I wouldn't know how to narrow down the search (1840 - 1844) through the newspapers, but if you had the time, you could potentially search through them yourself on microfilm. You could potentially request this microfilm through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) from the Ohio Historical Society (OHS). I have done this many times myself, and it works great. I can give you more details if you're interested. - Jean Griesan Colorado -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 09, 2006 7:42 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [WVCABELL] Early Cabell Holton Family Hello, I am hoping that someone who has some Cabell material can do some checking for me please? I am trying to trace down the Holton familiy sometimes it was Holten and sometimes even Holt. There was a Nathaniel Holton who was murdered apparently after 1840 and before 1844. I would like to know what happened to him if possible. He married Saarah Pierson on April 29, 1841 in Cabell and the same day Belinda Holton married William Pierson I am wondering if these were brother and sister. I have the Fee book for Cabell County. There are several mentions in the book of money being paid to take care of Rebecca Holten. They seem to begin in about 1846 and continue through 1861. But I cannot find a Rebecca Holten on the Census. I am hoping someone can help me with these families. I have The Fee Book for Cabell and also the Will Book and Deed Book so have information from those but this family seems very hard to keep track of or find out about. They also married into the Braggs. Thanks so much hope someone else out there is also researching this family and can shed some light on these people. 3. Hi Charlie, No, I have never heard of the name Vera Rose. County boundaries changed so much --- I am surprised we find half of our ancestors. My Rose family would have lived out in the country maybe on Twelve Pole Creek and would have been included in Wayne Co. VA/WV when it was formed about 1840 from Cabell Co. By 1850, Joseph Rose was listed in the 1850 Tazewell Co. VA Census at the end of household of his son Andrew Rose. In 1850 they were actually living in area of Tug River in McDowell Co. WV which was formed in 1858 from Tazewell Co. VA. I have searched the existing records at Charleston Archives and Library but it seems that no records exist for Wayne Co. VA before 1853. Thanks, Doug

    3. Hi Pat, I have always had trouble researching my ROSE family in early Cabell/Wayne Co. VA/WV. Are there any mention of a Henry Bishop married Lucinda Rose. Lucinda was believed to be dau/o Joseph Rose. Lucinda had a couple brothers named Isaac and Andrew Rose. Thanks, Doug
