If anyone is able to help me with information on some teachers at Guyandotte Elementary in the 1940's (some may have been there in the '30's and 50's also), I'd sure appreciate it. I'm trying to add to the "stories" of my family by including info such as Census data, obits, and such for some of the teachers who taught many of my relatives. I've found Census data on Miss Jessie Keister, who taught second grade, and also received a copy of her obit from Cabell Co library. Others I'm researching include Ms Workman (1st grade teacher), Ms Sheets (6th grade), Ms Darling. There are others who's names I don't recall. I think I was lucky in being able to track Miss Keister, but I've not been so lucky with others. There are many "Workman" and "Sheets" on the 1930 Census for Cabell County, but I'm not even certain which teachers might have been living in Cabell in 1930. Thanks very much to anyone willing to share info (hard data and/or tidbits from your memories) about any of the Guyandotte teachers from the 1940's. Google Earth is, indeed, a great feature, and I use it regularly. But don't miss what GNIS has to offer -- I've been able to use it to zoom in on cemeteries, neighborhoods, etc., for years: http://geonames.usgs.gov/redirect.html . Another nice thing about the GNIS is that it recognizes defunct geographic names. So if you're looking for a certain creek that was mentioned in an old will, the GNIS might be able to help you. Click here: Google Earth - Home I ran across this site in PC World's magazine today and checked it out. It's a free download and once you have it downloaded and installed, just type in an area and the image will zoom in on it. One of it's best features I think is it actually showed cemeteries and you can click on them and get directions. When you type in a location name just select all the boxes of things to look for in that area. In my first try I did Branchland, WV and was shown all the stores, churches, cemeteries, schools, etc., in the area. This is a great tool if your not sure where a church or cemetery is located. So far, all that I have seen were named. Lora

In a message dated 7/14/2006 3:38:21 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: I'm searching for information on the family of Thomas Roberts, b. about 1794 in Mecklenburg Co., VA; d. bef. March 11, 1869 in Putnam Co. I believe he married Susan Petty and had a daughter named Adaliza Roberts (b. ca. 1833) who married John T. Harbour. In 1868, Thomas Roberts married Judith Terry Johnson, a widow, in Putnam Co. The application for marriage license gives his place of birth as Mecklenburg Co., VA and his parents as T. and N. Roberts. Most sources I've seen give his parents' names as Thomas and Nancy May or Mays, however, many of the sources have inconsistent dates and the generations are confused. I need help in determining which version, if any, is correct. The best information I have indicates that Thomas moved from VA as a young man and lived close to the county line between Cabell and Putnam. He lived in Cabell first and then moved just over the line into Putnam Co. Also, I'm searching for anything on another Thomas Roberts who married Emily Unknown in Cabell Co. around 1860. I believe that Thomas and Emily had a daughter named Victoria Roberts who married Lee Hollandsworth and lived in Lincoln Co. I'm trying to determine whether these two men named Thomas Roberts are related and, if so, the nature of their relationship. I would appreciate any help in solving these puzzles on the Roberts family who lived in Cabell and surrounding counties. Jean Hi, I am very interested in this same information. I know what you mean about the confusion. I have proved my Roberts from my Grandfather to his who was Henry Roberts son of Samuel Roberts who was married to Sarah Spurlock. I believe that Samuel was a son of Thomas and probably the Nancy May but have not been able to prove it. There is so much information out there but the sources are not really clear. Do you have anything about either of the Thomas Roberts having a son named Samuel who was born probably about 1790 or so? Would love to help if I could. I have one of the old Roberts Genealogy things that was prepared years ago by someone who I am not sure knew what they were doing and its very difficult to follow and the prove the information. Would love to hear from you My Mother was born in 1922 and she was a Roberts. Pat
