I have an OBIT from Tucson, AZ for a person born in Cabell County. Others are mentioned in the obit. Mae Blossom HULETTE d. 7/25/2006 b. 5/4/1927 in Huntington I will copy this obit and send via E-Mail to anyone who wants it. Please include the name in the request and the name of this site. I am wondering if there are any WWII veterans out there who might have been in the 540th Engineering Unit when they landed on the shores of So France at St Raphael in 1944???? I had an uncle that was killed there while clearing mines from the beaches. He was from the Huntington area. Thank you very much. Erskine Hughes, Ks. ajh
My deep apologies to Ruth and to the Cabell group - for clicking "Reply" and, thus, sending the personal e-mail exchange to the group. I believed that I was responding to Ruth - not sending to the group. Please accept apologies from Frances.
Good to hear from you, Ruth. Appreciate your input. But, like it or not, this has occurred throughout the history of the world. This is an amazingly interesting topic. I've had, so far, just under one hundred very deep-thinking responses. Many of the people do not agree, personally, with their top three - but, they believe that the American populace would, in fact, "deify" those. Thought provoking. Frances, I can think of two twentieth century men and one woman who might fit the bill John F. Kennedy I know there were many who did not like the man nor his politics but I think he "fit" the nation at the time he was president. The day he died I was five years old and to this day can remember my mother (who graduated from High school in 1947) sitting at our kitchen table crying after hearing of his death. Martin Luther King Jr No words are needed to explain why there are some who worship this man and his deeds. Mother Teresa Again anyone who knows of her knows why she fits this. She truly was a saint on this earth, and I say that knowing that I am not a religious person. I would love to hear how this survey of yours comes out. Hello to my friends and relatives... Bo and I are involved in, yet, another of our history projects - which we so much share and enjoy. (This, possibly, could evolve into another of my programs.) We have been having a recent discussion about: "Who are the major persons, in US history, who have been 'deified?'" deification: one that embodies the qualities of a god; the elevation of a person apotheosis: exaltation to divine rank or stature; deification Will you be kind enough, please, to report to me the three top persons - exclusive of sports figures! - whom you are convinced have been "deified" by the populace in the history of our United States? You might or might not agree with the deification of these three persons whom you name. But, what I am seeking is your opinion of, throughout our history, who these three would be. Suggestion: Do not think too deeply! Name the first three of whom you think. I shall be happy to share the results of this survey with you. Thank you for helping Bo and me - from Frances.

I love this question! Surely, Washington and Jefferson have been deified. When politicians invoke our "founding fathers" it sounds as if they've lumped them into one single deity. However, I think making a deity of someone is almost un-American in itself and I can't think of anyone in these latter times being spoken of in this way. During World War II, Franklin Roosevelt may have come close but no one since. In working on my genealogy, I'm struck by how many great-great-great grandfathers were named after Andrew Jackson. This makes me think perhaps our deities have enjoyed a season in the sun and then been put back in their proper place with us ordinary mortals. That's fine with me. As we've found out with Jefferson in the last decade, we all have feet of clay. I'll be very interested in the outcome of this survey. Marjolee Brady [email protected]

Surnames: HONAKER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GCC.2ACE/3702.3 Message Board Post: I need help from anyone who is familiar with Benjamin Fulton Honaker and his family who lived in Cabell and Lincoln Co., WV. Before seeing his obituary which Candie Freeman so kindly posted, I had Benjamin listed in my files as Benjamin Franklin Honaker (b. abt 1852 in Russell Co., VA) married to Emmazetta Unknown. I also had listed as his sibling a Fulton B. Honaker (b. abt 1848, also in Russell Co.), married to Luvena Unknown. First, are these two men the same person? Second, if it is the same person, was he married twice and if not, which is the correct wife and what is her maiden name? I would appreciate any help in unraveling this mystery and correcting my files.
That is very kind of you to offer these obits for the asking, but I also have another suggestion on how to put them on the Internet. There is a forum board for Cabell County, WV on rootsweb.com where you can upload the obit as an attached file to a posted query. I usually type the obit first in the query part of my post and then attach the scanned file. This way people can read the obit Online and get a copy of the original at the same time. Typing in the obituary is also needed for the search engine to pick up the text, which is much better than just a title for your post and an attached file. If you don't know the URL for the forum board, I have included it below. _http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.sta tes.westvirginia.counties.cabell_ (http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.westvirginia.counties.cabell) Candie In a message dated 7/26/2006 12:32:36 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: I have the following OBITS from Tucson, AZ for Cabell County origins.
