Hello Nancy, if you go to www.wvculture.org you can view Anna's death certificate. She was born 6 Jan 1889, and her death date was 13 Mar 1931. She was the daughter of John Craig and Fannie Carus. It states that both John and Fannie were born in Virginia. The informant on the death certificate was Grover Blake and he resided at Ona, Cabell County, WV. Anna was buried at Greenbottom Cemetery. There are only 3 names posted on this list, but at least it shows that there is a cemetery by that name in Boyd County. Boyd was one of the three counties in Kentucky listing a city named Summit in the Town Search I did on Rootsweb.

Those counties are Lawrence, Boyd and Hardin County. The information given on the death record does not state which county Summit is located. Notes on the reverse side of this document state funeral services were held at the residence at 11 am with Rev. Lindsey Davis officiating and burial will be in Summit Ky. Cemetery. Also states he is survived by his wife Maggie Scott Kendrick. There is a mention of Western & Southern also on the back and I believe this is a life insurance company. Henry's residence was 1628 Commerce Ave., Cabell County. He was born in Menifee Co., KY and parents were John & Lucy Kendrick of Kentucky. His spouse was Maggie Scott Kendrick and the informant's name was signed Margaret Kendrick, which is probably his wife and the same person as Maggie Kendrick. There does not appear to be any children as his wife is listed as the only survivor in the notes. Henry's age is given as 64 years old.

This would make Leona born in 1881. A couple of doors away from the Arthurs is William Craig and family. There is a one month old in the home in 1880. You might see if they had anymore children or if the census taker entered the one month old name wrong. Mary There are two John Craigs listed in Cabell the most likely would be John H age 24 born in Rockbridge County Va he had a sister Mary Craig who married a Peter Bates and later generations married Craigs from Rockbridge. This John married a Benjaminah F. Karnes from Monroe Co. Va. on Oct. 10 1877 the other John married a Ruth Ann Crop in 1863. This Johns parents were Robert and Nancy. I would look in those two counties. mentioned. KYOWVA Genealogy Society now has copies of some marriage license at their facility covering these two years. I am not sure if the Benjaminah would have any other information on it for the later years. Maybe she went by the nickname Mary.
