We have several family members buried in Susie Chapel Cemetery on Rt 10 outside of Huntington but it is addressed as Huntington. Also in the cemetery by the Huntington Mall. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, August 26, 2006 9:10 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [WVCABELL] Huntington Cemetery Good Evening: I have been working on printing death records for WV on the West Virginia Culture and History site. And I had a question regarding a cemetery. Some of the people have the name of the cemetery as Huntington. Since there is not a cemetery named Huntington....I believe this means they were buried in Huntington, but how do I find out where in Huntington? An example of a person is Isabella Newman, she died on April 20, 1933. Any help would be appreciated. You are correct Kathleen. It only means they were buried in Huntington. You'll have to dig deeper to find out the exact cemetery where Isabella is buried. Still you may not find it because she may be buried in an unmarked grave in some small cemetery and the location possibly forgotten. I looked up the death certificate and noticed Isabella was born in Wayne County. She was single and died of TB. These might hold some small clues to where she was buried. I already looked in the Woodmere book by Kyowva and did not see her name listed. Next, I would suggest emailing or calling Spring Hill Cemetery. You can find their web site by doing a google search for Huntington Greater Parks Spring Hill. I am kinda surprised that this woman would be buried in Huntington since she was born in Wayne County and was single. In that time era, most people who died of TB were patients at the State Hospital. The majority of those were then took across the street to be buried in Spring Hill. Check out the most likely places first and work toward the smaller cemeteries. You could also try finding the death record of a sibling to find their burial place and then looking there for Isabella. Don't forget you can also order an obit from the library and perhaps a cemetery name will be listed there. Highland or Springhill would be my guess. You could also try the Cabell Gen Web site for the cemetery records done by Candie Freeman and Barry. I have 3 old photographs. One is only identified as the Martin family. The other one is identified as Jeremiah Thacker and his first wife who was supposed to have been a Martin. The 3rd says George Martin. I looked in the Cabell and Wayne census'. In the 1900 census of Wayne Co, I found Jeremiah's fathers family(William Thacker and Eliza Dean Thacker) not too many houses away from 2 Martin families. One is George and Emaline Brumfield Martin and next door is their son Milton Martin and wife Lillie. Emaline Brumfield Martin's father was Milton Brumfield. He was first married to Clarissa Hinds but his second wife was Mary Thacker daughter of Joseph Thacker. Emaline's brother married Sarah Hazlett first, but married second to Jeremiah's sister Cordelia Thacker. There is obviously a connection between Jeremiah Thacker and this specific Martin family. I figure that George Martin and Emaline Brumfield Martin had a daughter that married Jeremiah and had a couple kids before dying. Older family members say that they died. I do know that in 1912 Jeremiah married Bertha Fortner. If I haven't confused you too much and you can help, I would appreciate any help you can give me. Both of them died in Boyd County KY (Ernest on July 3 1970 and Maude on May 15 1977). Does anyone have any connection to this couple? Did they live their adult lives in Boyd County or just move there late in theirs lives? Are there any living children from this union? Who are Maude's parents? I'm searching for information on John E. Cottrell (sometimes spelled Cottrill) who appears on the 1920 census for Milton, Grant District, Cabell Co. John was born in 1864, probably in OH, and died in 1928. In 1910, he lived in Scott District of Putnam County. He is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Sugar Branch in the Hurricane Creek area of Putnam Co. John was married twice. His first wife was Virginia Unknown, b. abt. 1864 and died in 1904. Virginia also is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery. John and Virginia had at least three children: Catherine Ann "Annie" Cottrell, b. abt 1885, who married Aldophus "Dock" Billups; Homer Judson Cottrell, b. 1888, who married Adda Harbour; and an unknown male Cottrell, b. abt 1893. John's second wife was Victoria Billups, d/o Charles and Dortha D. Billups. Victoria was born about 1869 and her death date is not known. John and Victoria did not have children. I would appreciate any help or clues on identifying the parents of John Cottrell, his place of birth, siblings, additional children and maiden name of first wife. I have information on descendants of Homer J. Cottrell and Annie Cottrell Billups I will be happy to share. Thanks in advance. Jean
Do you have the information from the first marriage. The correct name and location? If not I can help with it.
