Ft. Pitt was located in what is now the Golden Triangle of Pittsburgh. It was originally built by the French and called Ft. Duquesne, but when it was captured by British and Continental troops under Gen. Forbes in 1758, it was renamed for the then-British Prime Minister, William Pitt.
