    3. My volume of Penn Archives is so battwred ,it has no cover,nor the 1st 55 pages, so don't ask what vol. and series. I'm starting on page 507. I've been talking,from memory,to Logsdon-l@rootsweb.com,but added WVBROOKE-L @rootsweb.com for this Email. No attempt will be made to name all the 1st land owners on what became Brooke,and Hancock,WV,and nw Washington Co,Pa. I use the 1772 date for 1st settlers like Harmon Greathouse,of Harmon's Creek,to settle at Weirton,WV Thomas Gist likely claimed Cove,or Brown's Island earlier. 1773 is the date I use for the colony of kinsmen from Westminster-Hampstead,Md. 1779 is the year the new Va government passed it's "cornright" land law allowing 400 acres to those proving they grew an acre of corn,and raised a cabin by 1779. In less peopled area of Va like Ky County,Va, it was possible to get 400 acres,plus buy cheaply 1000 acres adjoining,if unsettled. But that additional 1000 acres was rare in sw Pa-WV panhandle.
