Back in April 1998, while driving on McKim's Ridge in Brooke Co., WV and seeking a Veirs Run listed on an 1852 map, I found this pioneer abode and decided to take photos. I'm not even sure this cabin still exists today. It is very near where my ancestor, Nehemiah Veirs, a tanner lived in the late 1790s. His land deed of Ohio Co., VA dated 2 Mar 1795 purchasing land provides these names as adjoining land owners: seller - John & Elizabeth HENDERSON, neighbors - John SAPPS, Demas CAHAEL (CAHILL), James HUNTER. Eight years later when Nehemiah sells the land in 1803 - these are the adjoining neighbors - Jeremiah VIRGINS, James HUNTER, Asa OWENS (OWINGS), & Dennis CAHILL. I would believe it was still inhabited in the early 1900s - as there were many such buildings in the valley. Can any Brooke County researcher provide and share information on this early homestead?
